DEPT OF HEALTH SERVICES The Arizona State Hospital (ASH) provides inpatient psychiatric care to persons with serious mental illness who need long-term behavioral health care. The Arizona State Hospital also offers 12 hour shifts for our Direct Care staff as well as some alternative work schedules, flexible hours for non-direct care staff. Accounting Specialist 3 Job Location: Arizona State Hospital Address: 501 N. 24th Street Phoenix, AZ 85008 Posting Details: Salary: $53,240.15 Grade: 19 Closing Date: Open Until Filled Job Summary: This position is in the Arizona State Hospital's Patient Finance Department and performs advanced, senior level accounting-related tasks involving complex medical billing to Medicare, Medicaid, Private Insurance, Countries, and Self-pay for patients. Applies accounting principles and practices used within government institutions. Gathers, compiles, and reconciles fiscal data. Examines and verifies fiscal transactions including billing invoices and accounts receivable. Maintains all patient billing records. Job Duties: − Prepares monthly billings for patient services using the unbilled aged accounts report. Verifies monthly charges entered in the Avatar system and prepares billing reports for the review by management. Once approved, prints and mails bills. − Prepares ledger adjustments request for recoupments or billing errors. Prepares posting instructions for all payments received. Reconciles all guardian, payee, and guarantors accounts. − Follows up on returned patient claims by researching charges so they can be submitted. Reviews all medical claims received from medical providers for services provided to patients. − Performs a variety of other duties including sending a weekly admit and discharge list to Social Security, processing Medicare EFT's, and sending out notification letter on no pays, court orders, and fee agreements. − Other duties as assigned as related to the position. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs): Knowledge − Knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques of medical billing and reimbursement pertaining to Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, and private insurance. − Knowledge of HIPPA, state and federal guidelines on privacy. \ − Knowledge of health care plans' rules and regulations, and medical terminology. − Knowledge of Performance Management (PM), and Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) and Lean methodologies. Skill − Understand, interpret and apply the fundamental principles of accounting and general fiscal and financial record keeping practices in the performance of assigned tasks. − Communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Prefer Bachelor's degree and 2 years of accounting experience. − Requires possession of and ability to retain a current, valid state-issued driver's license appropriate to the assignment. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver's license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records and must complete any required driver training (See Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.12). − A State Hospital employee must be able to obtain a valid Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card pursuant to A.R.S> 41-1758.07.
