> OVERVIEW: Responsibilities of this position are that of a Regulatory Compliance Coordinator for the Animal Care Project. These responsibilities include all activities required for the proper care and maintenance of on-site animals. All employees are expected to perform their duties as assigned, arrive to work at 7 am and depart at 3:30 pm (M-F). You will be required to work on the weekends as scheduled. The weekend hours are from 7 am to 12 pm. This position is designated as essential. In addition, you will be expected to work extra hours during emergency situations or if any unexpected situation arise until work is completed. Primary duties include: * The Regulatory Compliance Coordinator (RCC) shall have detailed knowledge of federal regulations and policies related to use of animals in research. * The RCC will be the principle liaison between VSP, the IACUC, and the Animal Research Compliance Office (ARCO) and will support operations of those components * The RCC shall: collect, store, and distribute regulatory documentation required by DoD regulation and local SOPs; process work using word processor; working knowledge of database and spreadsheet operations and file management; wear and use appropriate personal protective equipment; work independently, according to deadlines; have strong interpersonal skills, frequent interaction with high level faculty members and staff; have a high degree of attention to detail and excellent organizational skills; have strong verbal and written communication skills and good customer service skills * The duties of the RCC shall include, but are not limited to: conducting on-site visits to laboratories and animal housing locations to ensure compliance with IACUC- approved animal activities; assist staff and investigators with correcting deficiencies noted during inspections; assisting the VSP in preparing for compliance inspections and site visits; conducting reviews of animal use protocols; and maintaining databases, preparing and distributing reports on compliance activities * Assist with the oversight and management of animal related regulatory compliance requirements * Assist with the collection of animal care and use data for DoD mandated reporting * Assist in the development of VSP SOPs and ensure they are revised and updated annually or as necessary * Assist with the organization, collection, and preparation of documents for Program and Institutional site visits and inspections * Collect and maintain documentation on testing to include, but not limited to feed, water, lighting, sentinel, and other required testing data * Assist with the function and maintenance of the post-approval monitoring (PAM) program to include: * Conducting personal visits to animal use areas to ensure consistency with IACUC-approved animal activities and applicable regulations; * Preparing PAM reports of evaluated protocols; and * Ensuring deficiencies noted during facility inspections or post approval monitoring visits are addressed * Participate in IACUC inspections to laboratories and animal housing locations to ensure consistency with IACUC- approved animal activities * Assist staff and investigators with correcting deficiencies noted during inspections * Conduct reviews of animal use protocols * Perform all other duties as assigned by SoBran corporate and program management Requirements and Experience: BS/BA desired; American Association of Laboratory Animal Science certification at the Laboratory Animal Technologist (LATG) level is desired. Certified Professional in IACUC Administration (CPIA) with three years of experience in an animal facility of similar size and scope is desired. Education and experience may be substituted for certification. Must have knowledge of federal regulations and policies related to use of animals in research, experience with an animal care and use program supporting DoD preferred. Must be able to work independently to perform job related tasks and meet deadlines, must have strong interpersonal skills, ability to work with diplomacy and tact while working with high level faculty members and staff; have a high degree of attention to detail and excellent organizational skills; have strong verbal and written communication skills and good customer service skills.
