Archaeological Technician - Seasonal - ( 2400011P ) Description More than 3.000 Environmental Services Staff, 20 technical specialties, 900 professional associations. Your Opportunity As an Archaeology Technician, you will play a crucial role in supporting our field programs by assisting with data collection and analysis. This position offers the opportunity to work on a variety of projects, including solar fields, residential developments, wetland restorations, major urban revitalization projects, pipelines, transmission lines, transportation projects, and excavation and investigations of cemeteries. This hourly, on-call position will support the archaeological field work needs of the Upper Midwest region. This position requires the ability to work outdoors in urban and remote locations and for extended periods under all weather conditions, often traversing rugged terrain. Location: While based in the Madison and Milwaukee metro areas, projects include a mix of local and out of town field projects. Candidates living across the Upper Midwest are encouraged to apply. Your Key Responsibilities + Conduct archaeological fieldwork, archaeological monitoring, and data collection for historic architectural surveys. + Work under the supervision of field director or crew lead in Wisconsin and neighboring states. + Occasional laboratory duties may be available on a project specific basis. + Travel extensively to the assigned office or to project sites. Paid travel time, standard GSA per diem, and single occupancy hotel provided for non-local projects. + Prioritize safety in field and laboratory practices. Qualifications Your Capabilities and Credentials Required: + Conduct Phase I survey, Phase II testing, Phase III data recovery, archaeological monitoring, and data collection for historic architectural surveys. + Perform laboratory duties including artifact processing, classification, and curation, as well as artifact photography, database management, mapping, and report layout. + Maintain the ability to travel to and from onsite jobs and the Madison or Milwaukee office locations as needed. + Possess a valid driver's license with a good driving record. + Must pass pre-employment drug and alcohol screen. Education and Experience Required: + Bachelors degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, History, or related field. + Previous experience in a field school or CRM setting as an archaeologist, surveyor, or similar role. + Technical expertise or specialty within Archaeology/Anthropology is advantageous. Preferred: + Familiarity with recording field data using ESRI's Field Maps is highly desirable. + Working knowledge of Upper Midwest archaeology and field methods preferred. Compensation: Compensation is based on experience and final amounts are determined at the offer phase, however, the anticipated range for this position is $20.00-$24.00 per hour. When conducting non-local field work, paid travel time, standard GSA per diem, and single occupancy hotel rooms are provided.
