The Kitchn is looking for a Freelance News Writer to work with our dynamic team on a freelance basis. We are seeking an organized and passionate individual, who under the direction of the Senior Editor, News & Features will write daily content for the News vertical. This individual will pitch and write stories for the News vertical, which includes reporting on trending food news (including but not limited to recalls, product launches, celebrity moments, retailer stories) and cooking tips and tricks. The Freelance News Writer will also test products on occasion and write reviews. The ideal candidate must be able to identify news angles that will drive traffic, and be nimble with their pitches based on what's performing on the site. Strong writing and reporting skills, good research capabilities, and eagerness to collaborate are all musts. We're always looking for people with a positive attitude and upbeat spirit who can be a team player. Contribution schedule to be determined between company and individual so as to fit in with company's publishing calendar. Rate: $120/day Responsibilities: * Pitch and research trending news stories * Write at least three articles per day * Review products for articles on an as-need basis * Write SEO-friendly headlines and metadata * Use article performance analytics to influence pitches Skills/Experience: * Strong internet writing skills and voice, with the ability to speak to the home cook like a friend * Top-notch organizational and time management skills * An astute awareness of internet trends, pop culture, and the cultural zeitgeist, especially as it relates to food and cooking * Ability to quickly shift in the face of new information and under tight deadlines * Passion for food and cooking a big plus Apartment Therapy Media is an equal opportunity employer that works to foster diversity and inclusion.
