About College of Sciences The College of Sciences (CoS) cultivates curiosity, encourages exploration, and fosters innovation to develop scientific solutions for a better world. Our connected community of scientists and mathematicians collaborates across disciplines and challenges to achieve excellence in science, teaching, and research. Working across six internationally ranked schools with the brightest young minds in our fields, we mentor future leaders to identify and push the frontiers of human knowledge, imagination, and innovation. CoS's Academic and Research Computing Services (ARCS) unit provides technology services and solutions to support and enhance the College's academic and research mission, addressing instructional, research, and administrative IT needs across all six schools. Comprised of four highly collaborative directorates, Operations, Infrastructure Engineering, Web Services, and Cybersecurity, ARCS plays a critical role in enabling the College's success. This position is in ARCS's Infrastructure Engineering group, reporting to ARCS's Associate Director for IT Architecture and Infrastructure. Responsible for developing, maintaining, and administering ARCS infrastructure and services, the individual will be focused on automation and integration, with an emphasis on programming and scripting in Python, Bash, PowerShell, and Salt Stack. Collaborating heavily with the units automation lead, this position will work closely with ARCS staff, student employees, and leadership to devise, create, maintain, and enhance tooling which enables ARCS to efficiently support the College mission. The position will interact with faculty, staff, and students in the College of Sciences and IT personnel across the Institute. Job Summary Develop, maintain and administer specialized IT infrastructure and related systems housed within an academic unit. Typically includes architectural design, installation and programming as well as end user support and training. This position will interact on a consistent basis with: unit IT staff, faculty and unit staff. This position typically will advise and counsel: IT staff, faculty and unit staff. This position will supervise: NA. Responsibilities Job Duty 1 - Provide architectural design, installation and maintenance for core systems. Job Duty 2 - Provide programming services in support of network and core systems. Job Duty 3 - Conduct system related training. Job Duty 4 - Advise faculty, staff and others on use of computing resources and systems. Job Duty 5 - Provide end user support in areas related to programming/scripting, supercomputing and/or operating systems. Job Duty 6 - Perform other duties as assigned Required Qualifications Educational Requirements Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related discipline, or equivalent combination of education and work experience Other Required Qualifications Make frequent visits to construction sites requiring bending, twisting, climbing, crawling, kneeling and stooping; may be exposed to extreme heat and cold temperatures and humidity. Required Experience Four to six years of job related experience Preferred Qualifications Preferred Qualifications All individuals interested in working in a team environment focused on management at scale with client interaction are encouraged to apply. Preferred Experience Four to six years of job-related experience in higher education. Preferred Educational Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related field Preferred Technical Qualifications The ideal candidate has professional or individual experience with configuration management, automation, revision control, and at least one programming language, along with operational knowledge of Linux. The College of Sciences primarily uses Salt Stack, SCCM (Windows), JAMF (MacOS), Python, Bash, PowerShell, GitHub, RHEL, Azure, OpenShift, and vSphere. Familiarity with one or more of these tools, or any of their ecosystem equivalents (such as Puppet, Chef, Ansible, Terraform, Ruby, Go, Mercurial, ClearCase, CentOS, Fedora, Debian, Ubuntu, SUSE, etc.), is ideal but not required. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities SKILLS This job requires advanced knowledge in architectural design, installation and maintenance of specialize software and hardware utilized within an academic environment. Requires detailed knowledge of all core systems services and applicable programming languages and operating systems associated with those installations.
