Job Description:
Farmingdale State College seeks multiple tenure-track faculty members at the rank of Assistant Professor in the Computer Systems Department to support 800 students enrolled in two bachelor's degree programs: Computer Science and Computer Programming and Information Systems (IT). Qualifications required of all applicants include a Ph.D. in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, or a closely related discipline, a strong commitment to teaching, and a research agenda. Consideration will be given to candidates in all areas of expertise relating to computing. The normal teaching load is 12 contact hours per semester. The ability to work in a collegial and collaborative work environment is essential.
All faculty members at Farmingdale State College have three workload components: teaching, scholarship, and service. The successful candidates will demonstrate an interest in and a high level of competence in teaching and will be expected to teach computer science courses in traditional face-to-face formats, with opportunities for asynchronous online courses and hybrid (mixed online and face-to-face) courses as part of their workload. Candidates should have a research agenda that complements their area of academic specialty, resulting in peer-reviewed publications and presentations, both of which are necessary for promotion and tenure at Farmingdale State College. The service component of the workload includes student advisement, as well as active participation on departmental, school, and college-wide committees.

Requirements:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
* An earned research doctorate in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, or a closely related field from a regionally accredited university. Those with doctorates in related areas should have significant coursework, research, and/or a dissertation focused on Computing. ABD in Computer Science or closely related discipline with a dissertation defense scheduled prior to July 30, 2025, will be considered.
* Demonstrated experience in teaching or as a TA in computing related courses at the college or university level.
* Experience with multiple high level programming languages.
* Strong commitment to teaching.
* Clear research agenda.
* Excellent communications skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
* Established record of scholarship in the field.
* Experience as a college level instructor of record for one or more college courses in the discipline.
* Excellent teaching record, with evidence of innovative and effective teaching practices.
* Experience with curriculum development and course design.
* Knowledge and experience with the ABET Computer Science accreditation process.
Additional Information:
This is a 10-month UUP faculty position.
* For the first 10 working days, beginning Tuesday, September 24, 2024, and ending Monday, October 7, 2024, applications will be limited to UUP Farmingdale.

* SALARY: $85,000 + $4,000 in downstate location pay = $89,000 Total Compensation. Salary may increase commensurate with experience.
