The Chairperson provides academic leadership for the School of Nursing Programs.This is a Professional Exempt Contractual (PEC) position for which an annual contract reflecting the base salary within the fiscal year (July 1st to June 30th) will be issued after ratification by Miami Dade College's District Board of Trustees. Duties & Responsibilities * Facilitates development, implementation, and evaluation of curricula * Communicates with full-time and part-time faculty on curriculum and instructional matters * Ensures ongoing professional development of faculty/staff in the School of Nursing * Ensures that the School of Nursing programs are in compliance with Florida Department of Education, Florida Board of Nursing, and Nursing Education Accreditation Body * Oversees program alignment with the college strategic plan and nursing standards * Works with Dean of Nursing to distribute program resources in conjunction with the School of Nursing Budget Manager * Collaborates with the Dean of Nursing to secure additional resources to support the programs through grant-writing, partnerships, contributions, and sponsorships * Participates in the preparation of required reports * Works collaboratively with staff and faculty to collect, evaluate, and maintain data to support systematic program evaluation * Teaches required points within the discipline per academic year * Participates in the hiring and onboarding for new faculty and staff * Supervises faculty per the collective bargaining agreement; ensures the effective implementation of the faculty advancement processes * Leads the development of strategic course scheduling, innovation in program and course development and the faculty assignment process; ensures that course schedules meet student needs and productivity expectations * Plans and supervises student recruitment * Works with faculty related to retention efforts for the School of Nursing * Facilitates efficient and effective student advisement by Academic Advisors and assigned Faculty * Provides support and advice in the collective bargaining process * Works closely with the Dean of the Benjamin Leon School of Nursing and Campus Presidents * Serves as an integral member of College and Campus administrative teams * Serves on various Program, Campus, and College Committees * Performs other duties as assigned Minimum Requirements * Florida License Registered Nurse or eligibility as a Registered Nurse (RN) and a Master's degree in Nursing with five (5) years of experience in Nursing, administrative experience and teaching college-level courses in an appropriate discipline or relevant clinical experience * All educational degrees must be from a regionally accredited institution * Knowledge of the requirements of accreditation agencies * Excellent organizational and communication skills (both oral and written) * Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diverse community * Skill in budget preparation and management * Possess computer application skills * Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. * Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format * Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community * Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors * Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community * Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions * Ability to supervise and train assigned staff including organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments * Ability to travel between program locations * Ability to work well in a multi-ethnic and multi-cultural environment with students, faculty and staff Essential Position This function/position has been designated as "essential."
