Reporting to the Environmental Team Leader, the Senior (Sr.) Environmental Coordinator develops and manages environmental programs at Red Dog Operations. The incumbent is responsible for implementation of specific regulatory, permit or other requirements that apply to Red Dog, as assigned.
Responsibilities:
* Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
* Represent Red Dog Operations to government agencies by negotiating and obtaining the necessary permits which are in the best interest of the operation and which maintain Red Dog's environmental standards
* Supervise exempt staff, and is responsible for training and advising direct reports in all aspects of the job
* Responsible for managing the operating budgets associated within their area of responsibility and the capital budget for any projects he/she manages
* Ensure legal and other requirements that govern Red Dog Operations are managed and administered as required, especially in the areas of responsibility which could include SPCC, C-Plan, RCRA Waste and Solid Waste under the Water Management Permit, Land Management (e.g. wetlands), Water Permitting (APDES & municipal), and Storm Water
* Interface with government officials in order to interpret policies and regulations, report non-compliance and mitigation measures, and to advise Teck of actions taken
* Review and interprets regulatory developments relative to their potential impact on Red Dog Operations and updates and advises senior management
* Provide written and oral comments on Teck's behalf concerning pertinent legislative developments that may impact Red Dog Operations
* Compile and submit reports to meet internal and external requirements (ex. agencies, corporate and stakeholder)
* Maintain working relationship with communities of interest and serves as one of the primary points of contact on regional affairs
* Relieve Environmental Team Leader and Manager Tailings & Environment in his/her absence
* Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
* A Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience in lieu of a degree
* A minimum of ten (10) year's progressive experience in an Environmental role preferably in a mining environment
* Must have experience with air, water, wetlands, and waste regulations and knowledge of Environmental Management Systems
* Must be proficient in Word Applications and Excel spreadsheets
* Knowledgeable to the applicable legal and other requirements within the areas of responsibilities assigned, that apply to Red Dog's environmental aspects
* Strong technical skills and the ability to analyze data and solve problems are a must
* Ability to work in a team environment and work effectively across all levels of the business with competence to direct the activity of others
* Good communication skills and a keen technical background are also relevant
