The Division of Research and Planning provides high-quality information and research expertise that helps state and local staff and partners of the Virginia Social Services System (VSSS) improve their programs and better serve their clients. Staff in the Research and Planning provide expertise in research and survey design; develop data needed to facilitate research; provide technical assistance on data analysis; conduct and manage comprehensive program evaluations; coordinate and oversee research with external researchers, disseminate information and research; produce a system of performance indicators for local agencies; and operate VDSS' Institutional Review Board; among other work.
Research Associate Senior will provide direct support to cross division requests, requests from the office of the commissioner, ORP, and outside partners as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
* Strong foundation in research design and implementation, along with expertise in data management and analysis
* Proven experience in designing and conducting research
* Strong background in Economics and Econometrics
* Proficiency with Machine Learning and/or AI tools
* Expertise in conducting statistical analysis
* Demonstrated ability to communicate and write effectively
* Experience leading or facilitating stakeholder groups to develop recommendations, plans, and decisions
* Ability to tailor communication effectively for various audiences
Additional Considerations
* Familiarity with human subjects' research regulations and Institutional Review Board (IRB) procedures
* Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as collaborate effectively in a team
* Experience with statistical software programs such as STATA, SPSS, R, or Python
* Knowledge of SQL database queries and their development
