Are you a creative, passionate, and results-driven student interested in community outreach, marketing, event planning, and social media? Can you tell stories on multiple platforms, identify and target audiences, pay attention to details, and work with volunteers and community partners? AARP Hawai`i is looking for you! Our team creates and executes various events and projects. It uses social media, print, and electronic communications to improve people's lives as they age and help build a better tomorrow for future generations. We'll challenge you to think and work innovatively on real-world projects. AARP is committed to your growth and cultivating your continued learning and development. This paid internship has an anticipated start date of January 2025, with an option to continue throughout the year.
*Responsibilities*
* Apply strategic, analytical, and creative thinking to help promote policy issues on family caregiving, health and welfare, digital inclusion, livable communities, and retirement security
* Prepare e-mail newsletter content to promote AARP Hawai`i events that fit template requirements
* Engage volunteers in advocacy, community outreach, and communications activities
* Assist with event organizing
* Help facilitate virtual and in-person events and Facebook live-streaming
* Provide social media support, help create compelling content, manage and schedule social media posts
* Provide some administrative support to volunteer teams and staff, such as sending project management and briefing sheets, meeting notices and agreements, and data input and tracking
* Engage in outreach to potential community partners to promote AARP activities and offerings
*Qualifications*
* Must be enrolled in a degree program at an accredited college/university rising undergraduate juniors or seniors, graduate students, or post-doctoral students and remain academically enrolled throughout the internship or must have previously graduated from college and enrolled in a continuing education program
* Must be a self-starter and adaptable with the ability to work under tight deadlines, manage multiple projects, anticipate project needs, and discern work priorities
* Technical proficiency in Microsoft Office programs & Zoom
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills
* In-office with remote work possible, with the ability to work effectively surrounded by moderate noise or independently offsite
* Familiarity with creating and editing videos and knowledge of multiple social media platforms is a plus
* The ability to use iMovie, Premiere, Canva and other editing software is a plus
* Be able to write short, catchy sentences that fit in word and character counts
AARP will not sponsor an employment visa for this position at this time.

* Exhibit respect and understanding of others to maintain professional relationships
* Independent judgement in evaluation options to make sound decisions
* Home office environment with the ability to work effectively surrounded by moderate home environment noise
*Hybrid Work Environment*
AARP observes Mondays and Fridays as remote workdays, except for essential functions. Remote work can only be done within the United States and its territories.
*Compensation and Benefits*
The hourly range is $18 for undergraduates, $21 for graduate students, $28 for Ph.D. candidates. Internships are non-exempt positions and are not eligible for employee benefits.
