Head Developmental Coach - COHO Swim Club - Full Time
The COHO Swim Club in Deerfield, IL, is a high-quality, competitive, and comprehensive swim program for residents of Deerfield and surrounding communities. Founded in 1971, COHO is a sponsored program of the Deerfield Park District with a rich tradition and history of success in swimming on the local, regional, and national levels.
The Head Developmental Coach will have autonomy over the Developmental Program and work with the Head Coach and Head Age Group Coach on the daily operations of running the club. This is a great opportunity to be involved with establishing the identity and direction of the program. Our main training facility is the 15-lane pool at Deerfield High School. We also have year-round access to the Deerfield High School weight room and the Sachs Recreation Center. In the summer, we also train at Deerspring, the park district's 6-lane 50-meter outdoor pool.
Coaching Responsibilities:
* Oversee all aspects of the Developmental Program
* Plan, prepare, and conduct swimming and dryland movement development for developmental-level swimmers using the club's approved dryland program.
* Be an energetic, compassionate teacher and a strong motivator capable of molding successful swimmers in and out of the water utilizing a growth mindset.
* Assist swimmers in developing and improving the technical and physical skills of competitive swimming and aid them in achieving success as it pertains to each individual.
* Train and manage assistant coaches working with the Developmental program.
* Travel to local and out-of-state meets as requested by the Head Coach and Head Age Group Coach.
* Maintain active USA Swimming membership, including all courses and certifications required to be a certified USA Swimming Coach.
Administrative Responsibilities:
* Work directly with the COHO Head Coach and Head Age Group Coach to create a positive and inclusive team environment.
* Perform additional administrative duties that pertain to the daily operations of the club
* Maintain quality communication with staff and participants, including publishing meet and practice calendars, expectations, and opportunities, communicating via emails, texts, phone calls, etc.
* Communicate effectively verbally and in writing with swimmers, assistant coaches, and parents.
* Work with the COHO Parent Association to develop and manage new team member onboarding.
Required Qualifications:
* Undergraduate coursework in recreation, park administration, leisure studies or related field.
* Two or more years of coaching swimming.
* Prior experience coaching children ages 10 and under swimming and dryland in a USA Swimming, AAU Swimming, High School Swimming, or Summer League Swimming program.
* Current USA Swimming Membership in good standing Which Includes: Approved CPR/AED Certification, American Red Cross Safety Training for Swim Coaches online & in-water or a Lifeguard Certification, USA Swimming Criminal Background Check, U.S. Center for Safe Sport Athlete Protection Training, USADA Coaches Advantage Tutorial Certification, USA Swimming Rules and Regulations Certificate, Welcome to USA Swimming Certification, USA Swimming Quality Coaching Framework Certification, USA Swimming CORE Certification. https://www.usaswimming.org/docs/default-source/membership/coach-membership-requirements.pdf
* ASCA certification - Level 2 preferred.
* Valid driver's license required.
* Prior experience preferred using Sports Engine Motion (Team Unify) and Meet Manager.
Preferred Qualifications:
Prior experience training and managing assistant coaches.
Scheduling, pay and benefits
The Head Developmental Coach is a full-time, exempt position with irregular hours, including evenings and weekends.
The salary range is $ 44K-$50K, dependent upon qualifications and experience.
