Introduction
The Speaker's Office provides support to the Speaker of the House of Commons in the execution of his official duties. The Office also provides certain administrative functions for other Members of Parliament.
Job description
This is an exciting role in the Speakers Office supporting the Deputy Chief of Staff to the Speaker (Director of External Affairs) to deliver a range of special events to support the work of the Speaker, aligned with the Speakers priorities.
It is an exciting opportunity for a highly organised and focussed individual to lead Speakers annual programme of events, delivering against the Speakers External Affairs strategy. You will be responsible for scoping and delivering a range of events that are high quality, purposeful and engaging. You have the opportunity to see events through their complete lifecycle. This role will offer the postholder challenge, variety, and opportunities for development.
Some of the responsibilities for this role include:
* Manage and deliver the Speakers annual faith event programme supporting the six major world religions of Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, Sikhism, and Judaism.
* Manage and deliver the Speakers annual history month event programme.
* Manage and deliver the live UK Youth Parliament Annual Sitting.
* Manage and deliver the Speakers annual Armed Force Week events programme.
* Lead Speakers Office relationship with Tri Military Holdovers scheme by building relationships with the Royal Navy, Army and RAF.
* At request of the Speaker manage and deliver within good event management process any ad hoc events that they wish to take forward.
Person specification
To be successful in this role you will demonstrate:
* A record of accomplishment of delivering practical and effective events and programmes to a high standard with minimal direction and within tight timescales, proactively communicating progress and risks against plans.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills in order to relay information clearly and concisely to different audiences, particularly briefings to senior stakeholders.
* Excellent stakeholder management and interpersonal skills - able to build and maintain effective relationships with, and relate to, people at all levels and from diverse backgrounds, displaying good judgement about when to challenge or involve others, seeking alternative views and options.
* Ability to work successfully within a team and build professional networks, while role modelling and upholding the values of equality, diversity, and inclusion.
* Experience of working in a fast-moving, unpredictable environment showing the ability to be flexible and hands-on when needed to meet operational demand. Demonstrates political sensitivity and is able to exercise independent judgement to maintain the impartiality of the Speakers Office.
