Job Description: Campus Title: Associate Professor/Professor of Criminal Justice - Tenure Track State Job Title: Associate Professor or Professor Department: Criminal Justice Job Code: HA3100 or HA3000 FLSA Status: Exempt Funding: 7115-0100 Bargaining Unit: MSCA Job Type: Full-Time Timeframe: Academic Year Shift: TBD Regular Days Off: Saturday and Sunday Salary: $85,000.00 to $115,000.00 (salary commensurate with education and experience) ANTICIPATED START DATE: January 2025 Westfield State University's Department of Criminal Justice seeks a candidate, at the Associate Professor or Professor level (rank commensurate with experience), to teach and serve as Department Chair in the Criminal Justice program. The position is expected to begin January 2025; however, a Summer 2025 may be considered. The Department Department of Criminal Justice at Westfield State University is the first such program in Massachusetts and is considered a premier program in the Commonwealth with more than 6,500 alumni. The program is also highly recognized in the Northeast region. The University's degree programs in Criminal Justice have over 800 undergraduate and 75 master students (MS). The department is committed to a broad-based liberal arts education rooted in the social science tradition of critical inquiry. Position Description The Department Chair has both administrative and teaching responsibilities. As Department Chair, this position coordinates academic programming for the Criminal Justice Department; this includes program assessment; curriculum development; course scheduling; vetting adjunct instructors; collecting and communicating resource needs on behalf of the department; schedules and facilitates department meetings and participates in department chair meetings. Teaching responsibilities include the development and teaching of undergraduate courses, advising, service, as well as continuing scholarship. The ideal candidate is expected to provide excellence in teaching across multiple modalities including face-to-face, online, and hybrid classes. While the area of specialization is open, preference may be given to candidates able to teach special topics in emerging fields (e.g. cybercrime, forensics, crime scene and fraud investigations). The successful candidate will have a strong background in teaching criminal justice, as well as experience demonstrating the ability to oversee all Criminal Justice undergraduate majors and minors, including WSU-CJ's online program. Duties and Responsibilities: Duties include but not limited to: Essential: * Oversight of undergraduate majors/minors and criminal justice affiliated programs. * Lead the department in curricular vision, innovation, and student focused practice. * Teaching, service, and scholarship. * Work closely with colleagues and Academic Affairs leadership. Requirements: Education and/or Experience * Ph.D. in Criminal Justice, Criminology, or related field. * Three or more years of academic leadership experience. * Five or more years of demonstrated effective teaching in a tenure-track position. * Experience with curriculum design and evaluation of program outcomes. * Experience in a union environment preferred. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities * Candidates should have a demonstrated track record of outstanding academic scholarship, as well as evidence of successful teaching and advising experience in a field of criminal justice. * Proven understanding of and commitment to the public college mission and its role in higher education. * Commitment to inclusivity and understanding of diverse learning styles and abilities of students, faculty, and staff. * Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Additional Information: Salary: Salaries for current Westfield State University employees and individuals currently working for the state of Massachusetts must be calculated individually in accordance with collective bargaining agreements as well as state policies.
