Other Conditions: To support the Hawai'i and Indigenous Future Imaginary (HIFI) lab and research in Hawaiinuiakea, this position is temporary at .50 FTE. Contingent on availability of funds.
Duties and Responsibilities
* Under the general supervision of Dr Bryan Kamaoli Kuwada Professor at Kamakakuokalani Center for Hawaiian Studies, to:
* Conduct Hawaiian and Indigenous Futurism and Future Imaginary research and community targeted projects in Hawai'i related to artificial intelligence and other cutting edge technologies
* Conduct literature reviews;
* Develop presentations and lectures,
* Conduct archival and digital research in English and Hawaiian language source materials;
* Collect and analyze data;
* Facilitate meetings;
* Attend workshops and lectures;
* Write articles;
* Assist with driving duties; and,
* Travel to facilitate lab-related events.
Minimum Qualifications
* Admitted full-time at the University of Hawai'i in a graduate degree program at the time of hire with good standing.
* A bachelor's degree in Hawaiian Studies, Hawaiian Language, English, Political Science, American Studies, Ethnic Studies, or related field;
* Demonstrated knowledge of Hawaiian and Indigenous Futurism and related issues
* Ability to conduct literature reviews, analyze and synthesize information; and,
* Ability to travel independently to various geographical locations in a timely manner. This requirement may be fulfilled by possession of a valid State of Hawai'i Driver's License (Class 3), valid comparable driver's license, or use of other means of transportation which meets position's needs.
Desirable Qualifications
* Background in speculative fiction-related genres (science fiction, fantasy, etc.);
* Experience in creative writing or visual art;
* Ability to read and write in the Hawaiian Language;
* Experience in community-based activities and workshops;
* Excellent writing, analytical, and oral communication skills; and,
* Knowledge of Hawaiian communities and values.
