WSP is currently initiating a search for a Lead Overhead Catenary System Designer for our Philadelphia, PA Location.
Your Impact
* Ensure that company technical policies and procedures are practiced during the execution of projects;
* Develop design approaches and concepts for projects including Power Distribution Design for Light Rail, Heavy Rail, Commuter Rail, and High Speed Rail, utilizing overhead contact or third rail systems;
* Prepare overhead contact system studies for AC and DC electrified railway systems;
* Develop and review designs and technical specifications, meeting quality standards;
* Develop construction cost estimates;
* Develop design/engineering cost estimates;
* Assist project managers in the coordination of project designs with other disciplines including attendance at project meetings;
* Review shop drawings, record changes, and communicate directly with suppliers, contractors, and client representatives as required;
* Perform field inspections as needed.
* Train and develop support staff:
* Participate in WSP's quality process for all deliverables.
* Lead technical aspects of contract negotiation, presentations, and meetings.
* Meet with various public or private entities or individuals to discuss issues relating to a variety of engineering/construction challenges and programs.
* Manage and provide performance guidance and leadership to assigned staff.
* Collaborate with professionals from a variety of disciplines to provide "trusted advisor" service and future ready solutions for clients.
* Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
* Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
* Bachelor's Degree in closely related discipline.
* 10+ years of relevant post education experience in engineering, prior transit and rail experience, and infrastructure design.
* Support and participate in the Systems implementation phase of projects, such as installation, Testing & Commissioning, Cutover, Record Drawings and final reports.
* Support procurement efforts by authoring technical requirements and specifications, performing vendor bid evaluations and supporting vendor selection.
* Commissioning of Traction Power Distribution Systems and Equipment, including experience with engineering design on at least three transit or commuter/intercity rail projects;
* Good written and verbal communications skills and understanding of the English language;
* Experience in a MicroStation and AutoCAD design environment for the development of Overhead Contact System design drawings;
* Functional knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of applications;
* Immediate availability to work in the US.
* Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
* Must be flexible to a variety of schedules to meet business needs and able to prioritize responsibilities and quickly adapt to change in a pressure work environment.
* Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
* Master's Degree in Engineering or closely related discipline.
* Professional Engineer (P.E.) License or Ability to obtain.
* Ability to perform site investigations in medium voltage (MV) substations and along electrified railroad.
