Job Title: Registered Nurse (RN)
Job Specialty: Advanced Care Unit (ACU) - Stepdown
Job Duration: 13 weeks
Shift: 12-Hour Nights, 7 p.m. - 7 a.m., RN 36 hours/week, no call
Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
Experience: Minimum of 2 years
License: Required
Certifications: ACLS (AHA), BLS (AHA), NIHSS
Must-Have: Stepdown acuity experience with specific patient types
Job Description:
- Work in a 30-bed unit with all private rooms, designated for Stroke, Trauma, and Vascular patients.
- Common diagnoses include Fempops, Carotids, DKA, AKA, and post-cath patients.
- Must be capable of reading and interpreting strips.
- Responsible for titrating drips per physician orders, including Cardizem, Insulin, and Heparin.
- Collaborate with a Charge Nurse available 24/7, who may take patient assignments during night shifts.
- Operate CPAP, BiPAP, and High Flow equipment, with a goal to manage stable vents in the future.
- Monitor techs are available, but RNs are required to read, verify, and sign-off on telemetry strips.
- Self-scheduling is allowed with both self-scheduling and block scheduling options, contingent on unit needs.
- Required to work every other weekend, specific to night shifts on Fri/Sat/Sun.
- Float responsibilities include floating to MedSurg/Tele or ICU but not to CVICU – only for ACU status patients.
- Adhere to dress code of Royal Blue scrubs, with scrub jackets permitted but no hoodies or sweat-jackets.
- Orientation involves a first day with HR and the clinical educator, followed by shadowing on the unit, and independent work by the third day.
- Charting is completed using EPIC.
- Expectation to work during the holiday rotation unless exempted by unit needs.
