We are now seeking qualified candidates to serve as an Investigator to work within our Desktop Special Handing Team whose primary focus is conducting property claims investigations via research, phone / video interviews, planning, and provide direction and guidance to private investigative firms that carry out a variety of tasks in the field. The Investigator I position is an entry level position that requires limited oversight while conducting a variety of property claims investigations using basic research, analytical, and investigative skills in an innovative and collaborative environment. The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree with a concentration in Criminal Justice, Criminology, or related field, and possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to evaluate findings and work closely with law enforcement. The position is in our Jacksonville office with the potential for occasional overnight travel.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The position’s primary purpose is to conduct low to moderately complex investigations involving suspicions of insurance fraud related to the submission of property claims and/or insurance policies within Citizens’ insurance organization.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:
- Model ethical behavior and executes job responsibilities in accordance with Citizen’s core values, ethics, and information protection policies.
- Plans, prioritizes, and carries out investigative assignments and conducts and/or coordinates interviews, property inspections, and Examinations Under Oath (EUO) and other fact gathering methods as appropriate for the purpose of obtaining material evidence.
- Perform fact pattern analysis and completes all aspects of case management tracking, including preparation of case file notes reports, graphs, table, and documentation management in support of investigative findings.
- Reviews claims and/or underwriting user and system generated SIU referrals and other internal reports as assigned and in accordance with Citizens’ SIU policy and conducts basic forensic research to determine the need for additional fact gathering and record collection prior to assignment by management.
- Prepares and refers claims and other matters involving suspicious insurance acts to the fraud bureau or other law enforcement/regulatory entity in accordance with Citizens’ policy and Florida statutes; responds to law enforcement file/information requests and represents Citizens at SIU industry meetings facilitated by law enforcement and NICB.
- Participates in the creation and delivery of fraud awareness training to Citizens’ employees, business partners and other stakeholders as necessary to facilitate the identification and referral of potentially fraudulent insurance acts to SIU.
- May participate in catastrophe response, including deployment to remote offices and/or extended hours for extended periods of time.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Basic knowledge of insurance principles.
- Demonstrated working knowledge of investigative methods to evaluate and apply laws, rules, regulations, and policies.
- Knowledgeable of the high degree of integrity and confidentiality required handling information that is considered personal and confidential.
- Ability to make administrative and procedural decisions and judgments on sensitive, confidential issues.
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing with a wide range of staff and management.
- Ability to balance multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced and changing environment.
- Analytical, problem solving and organizational skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office systems including Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- High School Diploma/GED
- Associate’s/Technical degree OR two (2) years of relevant experience OR a combination of education and relevant experience equivalent to two (2) years of college
AND
- 1 or more years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified or experience such as an Investigator, Auditory, Analyst, Research Assistant of support role in Investigative/police unit.
- Additional education may count towards experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in criminology, criminal justice, insurance/risk services.
- Prior professional experience in an audit or investigative environment.
- Three (3) or more years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified or experience such as an Investigator, Auditor, Analyst, Research Assistant, or support role in Investigative/police.
- Knowledge of investigative procedures and investigative analysis procedures.
- Intermediate to advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office systems including Access, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to sit for long periods of time, listen and converse over the telephone, and key frequently on a computer for long periods of time (4 or more hours per day). Position also requires the ability to be mobile, operate a motor vehicle, inspect physical damage and work in a highly energetic and flexible work environment. Position also requires ability to travel overnight on a limited basis.
