Description
Under the direct supervision of an Intern Supervisor and existing leadership within the Behavioral Health Department, the Graduate Student Intern provides support and services, including direct clinical services to clients of the Behavioral Health Department, 24 hours per week for the academic school year from September through May, exact dates depending.
Representative Duties:
Provides direct clinical services to clients, 12 hours per week:
* Provides intake / diagnostic evaluations for new clients, using established therapeutic processes
* Provides short-term therapy to BH clients, using established therapeutic processes
* Co-facilitates group therapy to BH clients, using established therapeutic processes
* Maintain a caseload of 9 clients by end of 1st month, and move to 18 clients by the end of the 2nd month
* Offer at least one clinical hour in the morning between 8-10 am, and at least 1 clinical hour in the late afternoon (5 or 6 pm)
* All clinical hours must be provided on-site at 1340 Boylston St., though clinical sessions maybe virtual to clients
* Adheres to NASW Code of Ethics
Performs and completes clinical documentation/administrative tasks accurately and in a timely manner, 8 hours per week:
* Writes case notes for each client interaction, for review and co-signature by Intern Supervisor
* Completes treatment plans, treatment plan updates, session notes, assessments, and discharge summaries according to department standards and in accordance with Fenway policy
* Writes a treatment plan by the 4th treatment session
* Provides consultation to, and collaborates with, the other health care providers that constitute a client's health care team
Participate in Intern Programming, 4 hours per week
* Participates in regularly scheduled supervision, 1 hour per week
* Including audio/written process recording activities as requested
* Attends and contributes to Intern Group Meeting, 1 hour per week
* Participates in cross-training and/or job shadowing activities outside of outpatient psychotherapy, 1 hour per week as appropriate
* Attends BH department team meetings, 1 hour every other week
* Participates in Fenway Health BH Intern Training Seminars, 1 hour every other week
Meets Agency Participatory Expectations
* Adheres to all agency and departmental policies and procedures as appropriate, including but not limited to the following, as not doing so would result in termination of internship:
* Attendance and Punctuality
* Discrimination, Harassment, Sexual Harassment and Workplace Bullying Policy
* Occupational Health Guidelines
* Participates in quality assessment and improvement activities as requested
* Adheres to the highest principles of patient and client confidentiality
* Adheres to established safety policies, procedures and precautions; identifies potential or actual unsafe situations in the environment and takes measures to rectify the situation
* Attends all required meetings, in-services and professional trainings
* Attends all regularly scheduled research meetings, trainings, forums and pertinent FCH staff meetings
* Maintains professional competence necessary to perform job responsibilities; maintains and provides agency with records of continuing education activities
Performs other related duties as required
Requirements
* Active enrollment in a graduate degree program in related field (e.g. Social Work or Counseling) required
* Flexibility, adaptability, and ability to multitask
* Counseling and/or related experience required
* Successful completion of college level course work focused on understanding human behavior, basic counseling theoretical frameworks, and basic diagnostic assessments
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* Experience working within an ethnically, culturally, and racially diverse team
* Ability to work harmoniously with diverse groups of individuals required
Preferred Qualifications:
* Ability to document timely and accurately in fast-paced environments
* Previous advocacy/case management experience
* Previous experience in outpatient therapy settings
* Experience with LGBTQIA+ issues, HIV, and trauma
* Experience with substance use disorders, short-term interventions, and group work
Physical Requirements:
* Ability to meet the following physical requirements with or without reasonable accommodations:
* Sit at a computer station for extended periods of time
* Ability to keyboard for extended periods of time
