Please submit the General Employment Application for this position to HResources@homesteadfl.gov General Functions: This position performs and supervises a variety of routine and complex technical work in connection with the enforcement of the provisions of the Florida Building Code, Miami-Dade County Code, City Code, and other related federal, state, and local codes, ordinances, resolutions, and regulations. This position provides backup for the Building Official, upon their absence. Work includes office and field duties. Reports To: Supervisory Responsibility: Division Director/Building Official Inspectors Essential Duties and Responsibilities: * Reviews building plans, blueprints, specifications, and materials lists to determine compliance with applicable regulations and good building and construction practices. * Conducts technical field inspections of buildings and premises during various phases of construction and use. * Inspects buildings being raised to verify that proper safety methods are being employed and protects adjacent properties and the public. * Reviews permits and inspections for issuance of Certificates of Occupancy or Completion in accordance with applicable codes, federal, state, and local laws, ordinances, and regulations. * Prepares and maintains reports, records, and correspondence concerning building structure enforcement and inspection activities Coordinates inspections and provides technical supervision of the department's plan review and inspection services. * Performs all work within confines of the safety rules and regulations as subscribed to by the City of Homestead. * Responsible for conducting pre-assessments and post-assessments disaster assessments on behalf of the City. * Research problems and complaints regarding commercial and residential work and code compliance as it relates to the building codes. * Reviews threshold reports and confirms general compliance with the project status. * Attends annual continuing education courses for re-certification. * Enforces, explains, and interprets pertinent sections of the Building Code. * May present code violation cases to the Code Compliance Special Master. * Responds to electronic correspondence and phone communication in regard to building projects and permit issues. * Performs other job-related duties as assigned by supervisor. Type of Appointment/Work hours: * Full-time/Regular in-person position. * Standard workweek, which is forty (40) hours of work per week usually consisting of five (5) days of eight (8) hours per day. The workday may be varied for the efficient delivery of public service. * May be required to work other than the standard workweek on occasion, including evenings, weekends, and/or holidays. * Designated as essential personnel. Physical and Environmental Demands or Conditions: The physical and environmental demands for this position have been listed on the last page of this description. Physical and environmental demands must be met to successfully perform the essential duties and responsibilities of this position. Requirements: * Registered Professional Engineer licensed in the State of Florida OR Registered Architect license in the State of Florida OR Certified General Contractor. * Must be able to meet the requirements of the Miami-Dade County Code Chapter Section 8-21.2 - Appointment of Chief Building Inspector. * Must be certified by the Miami-Dade County Board of Rules and Appeals as specified by Miami-Dade County and the Florida Building Code and hold valid certification issued by the State of Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation Board of Building Code Administrators and Inspectors in accordance with Florida Statute Chapter 468. * Must obtain a Building Code Administrator License within one (1) year of the position. * Must possess a valid Florida driver's license with a clean driving record. * Must pass a background screening process. Work Authorization/Security Clearance: * The employee must successfully pass a background screening process and comply with the City's Drug-Free Workplace policy. * The City will also verify the identity and employment authorization of individuals hired so the proper completion of Form I-9 is required, which includes the employee providing documents evidencing identity and employment authorization.
