Purpose
The primary goal of this position is to provide one-on-one career coaching, targeted career programming/resources, and career education to School of Information undergraduate and graduate students.
Responsibilities
* Provide career advising to School of Information students to include, but not limited to, resume writing, cover letter reviews, LinkedIn profile optimization, personal branding, elevator pitch, interview preparation and strategy, career goal assessment, professional development, job search strategy, networking, offer evaluation, and salary negotiation.
* Assist with career-related programming, workshops and activities such as the annual Career Fair, contributing to team success as a collaborative partner.
* Lead all direct student communication/marketing regarding career programming, leveraging communication tools such as social media and newsletter platforms as needed.
* Maintain Career Resources Canvas pages.
* Track student appointments and student event attendance in Handshake.
* Monitor Careers general inbox and respond to inquiries as appropriate.
* Other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree in business, education, counseling, or a related field; and three years of relevant experience in career coaching or advising.
* A strong desire to work with students and knowledge of various career fields.
* Strong customer focus; ability to listen attentively to students and other internal and external stakeholders to understand and respond positively to their requests.
* Ability to work collaboratively with various campus stakeholders including academic advising staff and faculty members.
Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications
* Master's degree in business, education, counseling or a related field. Two or more years of relevant experience in career coaching or advising.
* Experience working with students from a wide variety of backgrounds.
* Experience with Handshake and Canvas
Salary Range
$53,000
Working Conditions
* Standard office conditions
* Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation
* Some evening and weekend work may be required
