Zoo Curator The Hutchinson Zoo is a vibrant and engaging part of our community, fulfilling our mission of "Plains conservation through community engagement, inspiring experiences, and exemplary animal care." The Zoo's flagship conservation program is Native Wildlife Rehabilitation, with over 800 annual admissions. In 2024, the Zoo celebrated 27 years of continuous AZA accreditation, opened a 3+ acre Gateway to the Prairie Exhibit and embarked on a new Strategic Master Plan. More Masterplan updates and growth are underway for 2025. The Zoo Curator oversees the care and welfare of all collection and rehabilitation animals, including daily husbandry, behavioral training and enrichment, animal records, permits and reports. This position acts as a liaison between the Zoo Director and contract veterinarians and as the Institutional Representative for AZA population management species. The Curator assists the Zoo Director with updating and maintaining Zoo policies and strategic, Master and collection plans. This employee should possess excellent public relations, supervisory, organizational, and communication skills. Hutchinson Zoo seeks a well-rounded individual with a positive attitude, a balanced combination of animal knowledge, a passion for hard work, and a desire to support a strong zoo team with lofty goals. As a leader of a small group of animal care professionals, the successful candidate will work directly with staff on projects, training, and animal care and oversee wildlife rehabilitation and preventative care programs. Experience Required Education: A Bachelor's degree in a zoological or veterinary-related field is required. Experience: A minimum of five years of similar or related experience is required. At least two of those years should include supervisory experience. Prior hands-on paid experience in AZA-standard daily husbandry techniques and assessing the care and welfare of Zoo animals is essential. Prior experience in behavioral husbandry and veterinary treatment techniques is preferred. Wildlife rehabilitation experience is preferred. The employee is expected to have acquired the necessary information and skills to perform the job reasonably well within one year.
