It is the mission of the South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) to impact and transform young lives, strengthen families, and support safer communities through targeted prevention and rehabilitation.
JOB PURPOSE:
Under general supervision, plans, coordinates and/or performs standard management support service activities for the Victim Services Unit. Performs a variety of complex administrative support or technical support duties in support of the Director of Victim Services. Represents SCDJJ Office of Victim Services in inter and intra agency victim service efforts. Provide victims with services and explain the procedures of the criminal justice system with the design to minimize the psychological and economical effects of victimization.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Plans, coordinates and/or performs standard administrative management support service activities for the Director of Victim Services of the Community Services Division.
Provides assistance to Victim Service Coordinators and Case Management Monitors for the purpose of providing various forms of assist with juvenile crime victims.
Ability to perform the duties of a Victim Service Coordinator in their absence or as necessary.
Receives and screens telephone calls and personal callers, making appropriate referrals.
Solves programmatic/procedural problems and answers questions that require substantial knowledge of assigned program areas and schedules appointments as requested.
Generates and/or reviews essential correspondence ensuring format, grammar, spelling and punctuation are correct.
Establishes and maintains procedures for recording and filing various forms and reports.
Receives and appropriately addresses incoming calls; receives and assists all visitors, ensuring they are properly directed/escorted.
Responsible for screening incoming correspondence.
Forward reminder to supervisor with necessary background information, reports and documents through remainder of the systems.
Coordinates updates and other projects that require input to be received cross-divisionally, receives and organizes this information.
Performs other related job duties as assigned.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
STATE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
A high school diploma and work experience that is directly related to the area of employment. A bachelor's degree may be substituted for the related work experience.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge of the principles, policies and practices of office management.
Must be proficient in Word, Excel, PPT and JJMS.
Knowledge of federal/state laws pertaining to youthful offenders and juvenile justice.
Knowledge of the courts and law enforcement.
Ability to effectively plan and organize work activities and prioritize task completion according to schedules and goals.
Ability to communicate effectively with all levels (supervisors, executive management, the public, etc.).
Must become a certified Victim Service Provider within a year of hire.
This position performs job duties relating to the custody, control, transportation, or recapture of youth within the jurisdiction of the Department of Juvenile Justice, and the employee may have direct or indirect contact with youth within the jurisdiction of the Department of Juvenile Justice. Training applicable to these duties will be provided.

A high school diploma and five (5) years of work experience that is directly related to the area of employment. A bachelor's degree may be substituted for the related work experience.
