The definition of tobacco or nicotine products includes but is not limited to, cigarettes, cigars, chewing tobacco, pipes, snuff, e-cigarettes and nicotine patches or gum.   This is technical work analyzing drinking water for organic and inorganic contaminants.  This position is fully responsible for organics and metals analysis and for supervising and assisting lab technicians.  Work is performed under the general supervision of the Environmental Laboratory Manager. The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned. * Collect water samples. * Analyze organics and metals. * Prepare solutions and conduct special tests. * Maintain accurate reports and records. * Conduct laboratory correspondence related to particular area of work. * Run routine and special analysis and tests and operate specialized equipment, including gas chromatograph and atomic absorption spectrophotometer. * Operate within EPA, HRS quality control guidelines. * Answer customer's water quality questions. * Supervise and back-up laboratory technician in their work. * Fosters positive employee relations and employee morale on a City-wide basis. * Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Microbiology or a related field.   * Five (5) years laboratory experience.   * Must possess a valid Florida Driver's License and clean driving record.  * Knowledge of gas chromatography and atomic absorption spectroscopy.   * Knowledge of chemistry and microbiology.   Knowledge of all laboratory methods and procedures. Knowledge of safety regulations. Knowledge of quality control programs. Knowledge of PC and various required programs. Ability to work rotating shifts. Ability to perform calculations for correct solution concentrations and other calculations related to quality control. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with the general public and fellow employees. Ability to conduct complex laboratory investigations and experiments. Skill in the operation and maintenance of a gas chromatograph, atomic absorption unit, and other associated analytical machinery. Ability to manage and prioritize routine, specialized and complex assignments and problems utilizing knowledge acquired through prior education, training, and experience. Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form. Ability to adapt to an evolving and continually improving environment.
