Description
The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, Prince George's County Department of Parks and Recreation, Natural and Historic Resources Division, is currently seeking Seasonal/Intermittent applicants to fill a part time Park Naturalist - Seasonalposition at Patuxent River Park in Upper Marlboro, Maryland. This position pays at a rate of $16.25 per hour, up to 40 hours a week March-November including one weekend day. Accrued paid sick leave is available, but no other benefits are included.
Examples of Important Duties
* Provide interpretive and educational programs including nature hikes, fish seining and guided kayak tours to various groups such as schools, scouts, and the general public.
* Assist with weekend kayak and canoe rentals
* Assist with special events
* Operate the pontoon boat
* Assist with administrative and planning duties
* Greet visitors, provide program information, promote positive public relations and encourage public appreciation for the natural environment
* Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
Preferred Candidates will possess:
* At least two years of college-level education in a field such as environmental education, earth science or natural history - or equivalent work/volunteer experience
* Experience working with children, preferred
* Proven ability to excel in verbal communication, take direction, be a team player, flexibility to multitask and maintain stability under pressure
* Demonstrated commitment to customer service, inclusion, diversity, equity, and access
* Willingness to work outside in all weather conditions
* Superior communication skills; outgoing and friendly
* Excellent organizational skills
* Be able to pass CPR/First Aid certification
* Be able to pass a Maryland Background check
* Valid driver's license

Working Conditions
* Ability to work onsite/in person with staff, volunteers, and the public
* Ability to work outdoors for extended periods of time, in cool and hot/humid conditions
A criminal background investigation will be completed prior to hire.
May be subject to medical, drug and alcohol testing.
