SWIM USA is the premiere designer and manufacturer of women's swimwear with offices located in New York, NY. We are 84 years young and seeking a dynamic, creative and talented Senior Designer to join our team.
POSITION SUMMARY

The Senior Designer will be responsible for designing swimwear and cover-ups for designated product lines. The person will develop a creative vision for new product lines while working with the Design Director. The Senior Designer will also need to work cross-functionally with production, product management, sales, and other relevant teams within the supply chain. This position will use exceptional design skills, knowledge of the current market and identifying trends to create innovative and commercially viable products from conception to production.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Maintain a strong understanding of marketplace trends (including consumer, fashion, and product) through trend discovery & analysis

Create mood boards for each new season or project that highlights the design intent

Work with Design Director to select color and print direction for each project/collection

Design new silhouettes and create flats in Illustrator. Fill flats in order to make a cohesive collection.

Work with textile artists to develop print artwork.

Develop presentation materials for meetings both digital and in person

Be comfortable presenting your vision to Design Director and VP as well as to account

Successfully follow product development cycle steps to execute all designs into production.

Work directly with Patternmakers to coordinate and facilitate all first samples

Responsible for setting up style sheets within our PLM system

Oversee all 3D milestones for the client and work with our internal team to execute fit intent

Work with product development department to source new fabrics, trims, and concepts that are cost effective for the customer.

Work closely product managers to provide information necessary for costing and production

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Art & Design, Fashion Design

Experience: Minimum 4-8 years experience in designing swimwear, intimates or related fields.

Skills:

Ability to create/develop prints and palettes appropriate to target customer for each brand

Ability to design silhouettes to target customer for each brand

Understand fundamentals of pattern-making and intimates construction

Ability to successfully follow and execute requisite steps in product development lifecycle from spark of inspiration to production-ready styles

Strong written and oral communication skills

Team-player

Well-organized

Detail-oriented. Every step in design process is critical to success of brand.

Ability to follow product development procedures--both industry standards and those unique to this organization.

Capability to re-prioritize tasks as new requests enter workflow.

Strong color sense.

Timely knowledge of fashion trends.

Key understanding of division customer.

Key understanding of garment construction and cost.

Illustrator/Photoshop experience preferred.

Travel: Occasional travel required domestically to accounts/internationally for trend research or to other SWIM USA offices.

Working Conditions: Office - flexible hybrid schedule - required to be in the office 3 days per week.

Physical Demands: must be able to stand, sit, walk and climb stairs up to 8 hours per day.
