The Salama laboratory in the Human Biology Division seeks a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow with an interactive group of scientists investigating the role of horizontally acquired genetic elements to allow the human ulcer causing bacteria, Helicobacter pylori to establish infections in the stomach, cause disease, and predispose individuals to developing gastric cancer. Responsibilities The post-doctoral fellow will work closely with the PI, Dr. Nina Salama, and will be responsible for performing and analyzing genomic and genetic studies H. pylori strain variable genes, biochemical studies of gene function, using murine and cell culture infection models, as well as engineering recombinant strains for these studies. Additional expectations include daily electronic documentation of lab work, summarizing and reporting data in an organized fashion, meeting with collaborators, and writing papers and grants related to their work. Qualifications The successful candidate will be a scientifically driven individual, with a track record of productive research demonstrated by at least one first author publication, with excellent communication skills and who enjoys working in a highly collaborative environment. * A recent PhD degree in Microbiology, Cellular & Molecular Biology or a closely related field * Strong knowledge in molecular microbiology * Expertise in genetic and genomic analyses * Advanced training and experience with in bacterial cell culture and genetic manipulation A statement describing your commitment and contributions toward greater diversity, equity, inclusion, and antiracism in your career or that will be made through your work at Fred Hutch is requested of all finalists. The annual base salary range for this position is from $67,728 to $140,000 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications. This position may be eligible for relocation assistance.
