Classification established for any NON-Duke student paid at an hourly rate. This includes high school students, visiting undergraduate students, and hourly visiting graduate students. The incumbent will perform various duties as assigned by the department. Incumbents are compensated at varying rates of pay based upon the work being performed and according to the pay schedule developed and maintained for each department. Incumbents must be paid at least minimum wage.
Work Preformed
This will be a Full-Time internship, 40 hour per week over 8 weeks ( June 16th - August 8th). It will include weekly team meetings, 1x1s and training opportunities. Each intern will be given 2 projects that will require interaction with multiple teams across the Duke Cancer Institute: Cancer Registry, Clinical Data Strategy (CDST), Clinical Research Unit and Human Resources. The intern's primary assignment will be to the Solution Lifecycle Management (SLM) team during the 8 weeks.
The Solution Lifecycle Management (SLM) team at the Duke Cancer Institute is responsible for overseeing the development, implementation, and maintenance of information systems and applications that support clinical research and operations. The SLM team works closely with the CDST team and other stakeholders to identify, prioritize, and deliver solutions that meet the needs and expectations of the end users.
The intern will be involved in projects related to the following:
* Data quality assessment and improvement for the Duke Cancer Registry, which collects and reports data on cancer incidence, treatment, and outcomes. The intern will learn how to use various tools and methods to validate, standardize, and enrich the data, as well as identify and resolve data issues.
* Data visualization and analysis for the Clinical Data Strategy (CDST) team, which supports the strategic use of data for clinical research and operations. The intern will learn how to use Tableau and other software to create dashboards and reports that display key metrics and trends for different stakeholders, such as investigators, sponsors, and regulators.
* Additionally, the intern will have the opportunity to interact with other teams within the Duke Cancer Institute and learn about their roles and functions, such as the Clinical Research Unit, which manages the clinical trials portfolio, and Human Resources, which provides administrative support and guidance.
The intern will gain valuable skills and experience in data management, data analysis, data visualization, clinical research, and cancer informatics. The intern will also contribute to the mission and vision of the Duke Cancer Institute, which is to improve the prevention, detection, and treatment of cancer through innovative research, education, and patient care.
Know and follow policies, standard operating procedures (SOPs), regulations and protocol requirements that govern clinical research. Maintain Duke and project specific training and certification requirements.
