Description The M-NCPPC is a nationally recognized agency providing land use planning; stewardship of natural, cultural and historic resources; and delivery of award-winning recreation programs to the communities it serves. The bi-county agency carries out its programs in Prince George's and Montgomery Counties, Maryland, serving a combined population of nearly 2 million citizens. The Commission employs over 2,000 career (merit) staff, and more than 5,000 seasonal employees. The Commission is currently accepting applications and nominations for individuals to serve on the Merit System Board (MSB). As the highest-level appellate body within the Commission, the MSB is tasked with hearing appeals from career (merit) employees and ensuring the integrity and effectiveness of the Commission's merit-based employment system. The Board is composed of three members with no more than two members from the same County. Members are appointed, and expected to serve a four-year term. This recruitment is for a MSB member to fulfill the remaining term of a retired board member through December 1, 2026, and will be eligible for appointment for a full-term in 2026. The Key Responsibilities of the Merit System Board include: * Make recommendations to the Commission's governing body regarding policies related to the Merit System. * Review and recommend updates to the Merit System Rules and Regulations. * Approve compensation and classification plans. * Participate in quarterly MSB meetings and bi-monthly discussion sessions. * Dedicate approximately 6-8 hours bi-monthly to review and draft case decisions. The Commission is looking for individuals with the following qualifications: * A strong background in human resources management is required. * Experience in the administration and interpretation of human resources policies is preferred. * Strong writing and communication skills and the ability to provide thoughtful, objective recommendations are essential. * Must reside within the Maryland-Washington Regional District, specifically in Montgomery Countyfor the current vacancy. Compensation: Members receive an annual stipend of $6,500 with potential eligibility for a benefit package.
