Reuters is looking for a talented desk-based news leader to manage daily video coverage from North America in the role of Duty News Editor. You will be an experienced visual journalist with a track record for winning major stories, managing a fast-paced newsfile, and working with diverse teams. You will be confident handling breaking news as well as developing feature stories that go beyond the headlines for both broadcast and digital audiences. You will be passionate about telling the stories of diverse communities and providing voices from a range of perspectives. You will be part of a team of managers working closely with video, text and photo colleagues across the region. As a desk-based leader you will work with senior producers in bureaus across North America to commission, manage and deliver distinctive news coverage. This is a full-time role that demands flexibility to work long hours and weekends and will report to the North America News Editor for Video. About the Role In this opportunity as Duty News Editor, North America, you will: * Manage a busy live and edited news flow across the North America region using all Reuters resources: from video journalists in the field, to US network partner content, to user generated content. * Coordinate and commission daily news coverage with the News Editor for Video, bureau senior producers, and work closely with global production desks * React quickly to breaking news, offering strong coverage across all platforms, ability to juggle multiple lives and coverage priorities * Have a keen eye for visual storytelling and the ability to provide video coverage within tight deadlines * Produce tight, well-written accurate news copy to deadline * Pitch story ideas which work well for digital and broadcast platforms * Ensure Reuters coverage includes a diverse range of sources, voices and perspectives * Uphold Reuters Trust Principles of independence, integrity and freedom from bias About You You're a fit for the role of Duty News Editor, North America, if your background includes: * Solid editorial experience in managing news flow at a broadcast, agency or digital newsroom * Strong planning and organizational skills * Excellent news judgment, with a clear vision of what makes a compelling visual story * Thorough understanding of the latest digital video technologies for filming, editing, transmitting, and sharing video * Excellent communication skills and ability to build relationships quickly * Ability to remain calm under pressure * Ability to drive speed and accuracy across the news file * Please note the application deadline is Friday, December 27th. #LI-CH1 What's in it for you At Reuters, our people are our greatest assets. Thomson Reuters complies with local laws that require upfront disclosure of the expected pay range for a position. The location(s) for this role include one or more of the following metro locations: Los Angeles, New York City, San Francisco, Washington, DC. The base compensation range for the role in any of those locations is $104,700 - $194,500. The base compensation range in other locations may vary. This role may also be eligible for an Annual Bonus based on a combination of enterprise and individual performance. Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual's knowledge, skills and experience with consideration given to internal equity. Base pay is one part of a comprehensive Total Reward program which also includes flexible and supportive benefits and other wellbeing programs.
