Assistant Vice Chancellor/Dean of Students - Student Affairs - 21484
ATTENTION:
Student Affairs at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater seeks an Assistant Vice Chancellor and Dean of Students (AE212).
JOB DETAILS:
The Assistant Vice Chancellor and Dean of Students is a senior administrator in Student Affairs who leads planning, implementation and assessment of strategic initiatives related to students' personal and academic success. The Dean of Students reports to the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and a member of the Vice Chancellor's leadership team. As an advocate for student needs, the Dean has a leadership role in fostering an inclusive campus culture that is caring and accessible for students, faculty, and staff, and an office environment that inspires and motivates staff to provide exemplary services to members of the University community. The University relies on the Dean of Students and designated units to advance policies and programs aimed at positive student development, identify trends in student needs and to provide urgent response and problem-solving services to students and to other staff and faculty working with students.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Qualifications:
* Master's degree in Student Affairs, Counseling, Higher Education or related field
* 7+ years of full-time increasingly progressive management experience in a leadership position in Student Affairs, Enrollment Services or related field with demonstrated success and proven leadership abilities
* Progressive leadership experience that includes personnel management, budget planning, outcomes assessments, events/programming, and strategic planning
* Experience with leading collaborative programs and initiatives
* Experience interpreting and applying complex policies and systems
Preferred Qualifications:
* Demonstrated ability in the areas of student conduct, restorative justice and Title IX.
* Proven ability to lead organizations through change.
* Experience in crisis management and conflict resolution.
* Experience supervising professional staff
* Demonstrated experience and commitment to cultivate environments that fosters belonging
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
* Willingness and ability to be an active participant in following applicable safety rules and regulations including necessary training and drills.
* Ability to interact respectfully with people from diverse socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
* Strong written, oral and presentation communication skills
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Program Leadership, Supervision, and Administration:
* Provides strategic leadership in administering a comprehensive range of programs and services designed to support student success to the Division of Student Affairs, Dean of Students Office, and the Student Affairs Wellness Unit
* Guide change based on data and student need
Lead Special Initiatives and Collaborate with/and Advise Campus Leadership and Stakeholders:
* Facilitate collaborative relationships with a broad range of campus and community stakeholders
* Advising the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs on all related matters
* Ensuring a compassionate and appropriate institutional responses
* Coordinates the University response and assistance in crisis situations
* Co-chairs Chancellor's Committee on Mental Health
* Serves as the Student Affairs Wellness Unit Lead and on the Student Affairs Leadership Team serving as the backup to the Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs as needed
* Serves on a variety of university committees at the request of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs
Student Support and Advocacy:
* Promotes a campus culture that supports and enhances students¿ personal and academic success
* Supports students to resolve conflicts through thoughtful self-advocacy
* Advises staff and faculty who are attempting to help students solve problems and respond to student behavior that is challenging, disruptive, or non-normative for the academic or social environment.
* Serves as a liaison between Student Association representatives, the Student Activities and Involvement Department, Housing and senior administration, including the Chancellor.
* Lead strategic work relating to development and evaluation of institutional policies
* Leads and partners with University Housing, UWWPD, and Student Health and Wellbeing on crisis response initiatives and support for students
* Develops training and professional development on Dean of Students work
Student Compliance Functions:
* Define and clearly communicate University expectations to students, parents, and other stakeholders through multiple avenues
* Serve as liaison with University Relations, UWWPD and around off campus misconduct issues. In conjunction with the Title IX coordinator and Chief of Staff coordinate
* compliance with UW System and UW-Whitewater Title IX policies and procedures
* Maintain proficiency with Title IX and VAWA regulations and new legal developments
* Provide strategic oversight for required compliance and reporting
* Ensure that the University is in compliance with state and federal mandates regarding student privacy rights and FERPA, and various state laws

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
Well-qualified candidates can expect a starting annual salary within a range of $115,000 - $129,000 commensurate with the candidate's education, related experience, and qualifications.
