FINANCIAL AID COUNSELOR
JOB TITLE: Financial Aid Counselor/Processor
DIVISION: Enrollment Management
CLASSIFICATION: Full-time/ 12-Month / Hourly
DESCRIPTION: Provide quality customer service and financial aid counseling to prospective and incoming students. Develop customer service practices that support excellence in providing financial aid counseling, information and problem resolution for families and students. Present financial aid information to prospective students, both individually and for group campus visits. Responsible for complete knowledge of Title IV Federal Regulations and updates pertaining to the Federal Student Aid programs. Assist with maintenance of job-related sections of the Policy and Procedures Manual required by the Department of Education. Other duties will include processing of Financial Aid to assist in the transmission of files to allow the request of aid to be disbursed.
DUTIES:
Campus Visits
Responsible for individual meetings or group presentations with prospective students and families who are visiting campus. Needs to provide a warm, vibrant welcome that engages them and provides an excellent presentation of Evangel and the SFS department. Answers questions and assists visitors to access any information needed.
Financial Aid Counseling
Advise and counsel students, parents, agencies, and University staff on all aspects of financial aid programs (federal, state, university, private). Maintain knowledge of all federal regulations and changes in federal grant and loan programs as well as institutional aid and outside sources available to students. Provide counseling to students and parents regarding their financial aid. Serve as the point of contact for new in-coming students regarding their financial aid and anything that needs to be completed in order to process their aid and prepare them for financial registration. Monitor award notifications and problem solve for aid applicants. Assist with the development of the financial aid counselor role into a more single point-of-contact service structure as the team continues to move towards a model to provide students with an assigned financial aid counselor who can assist with all financial questions from the time a student is admitted.
Financial Aid Processing
Data entry within multiple software systems that allows processing between several entities.
Customer Service
Provide peer leadership to other financial aid counselors and all financial aid customer service. Serve as the customer service complaint resolution contact for all students. Assist with the mentoring and training of new financial aid counselors and other peer members of the team. Coordinate assistance to the enrollment management team and specifically to admission counselors as applicants and new students have financial aid questions or concerns.
Qualifications:
Must have strong interpersonal and customer service skills, a positive attitude, excellent written and verbal communication abilities, and strong organizational skills. Should be experienced in the use of Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) and aptitude for other computer software and related computer and Internet technologies. The employee must be able to comprehend, interpret, and apply federal and university policies related to financial aid. Must be a self-starter and be able to work independently. Must demonstrate a strong commitment to working with a team and be loyal to the University. Need to enjoy working in a complex, fast-paced office that demands flexibility and adaptability, attention to details and interaction with students, parents, fellow staff, and other administrators. Must be able to understand priorities and deadlines.
Experience:
A bachelor’s degree in business (or accounting) or equivalent work experience is desired.
