Field Training Officer (EMT)
Cayuga Health System began by joining two longstanding, independent hospitals into a cohesive health-care network providing seamless, comprehensive, community centered care for the residents of central New York. The Field Training Officer is a functioning full-time EMT within the department, who has additional responsibilities for training and orienting all Probationary EMTs employed by the agency, under the guidance of the Medical Director and Operations Director, and with the assistance of the Paramedic Supervisors. The EMT FTO plays a key role in the EMT selection and hiring process, as well as for preparing the EMT work-force to function independently in basic life support role, as well as in support of the agency Paramedics in their delivery of advanced life support care. The EMT FTO will also be responsible for understanding the New York State Collaborative BLS Protocols, thoroughly reviewing the documentation of trainees, and for clearing providers for independent practice at the BLS level. They will be responsible for consistent chart review, and for providing feedback to department staff in an educational and quality improvement capacity through the agency's ePCR program.
Roles and Responsibilities:
* Possess the ability to accurately document patient care utilizing an electronic medical record (EMR)
* Possess the ability to communicate clearly with hospitals utilizing multiple types of communication equipment
* Possess the ability to teach others; evaluate performance against an identified standard
* Ability to interpret and promote adherence to state regulations and agency policies
* Commitment to high quality, safety, patient experience, & regulatory practices
* Willingness to serves as a mentor, role model, and educational resource for fellow employees
* Willingness to ensure peers are performing patient care in accordance with established treatment protocols
* Assists in the development & implementation of guidelines, policies & procedures for education & field training
* Ability to perform EMS chart review, and provide constructive feedback to peers
* Willing participation in employee interview & selection process in accordance with policy
Required Skills and Experience:
* Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma
* Valid New York State Emergency Medical Technician - Basic (EMT-B) certification
* Valid American Heart Association (or equivalent) Basic Life Support CPR certification
* Valid Motor Vehicle Operators License from the state of legal residence, with a driving record that demonstrates general compliance with motor vehicle laws
* Successful completion of the emergency Vehicle Operator's Certification (12 months of hire)
* Two years of full-time employment as an EMT on an ambulance
Preferred Skills and Experience:
* EMT Officer or Supervisor experience
* EMS QA/QI experience
* Associate's or Bachelor's Degree
* Completion of formal Field Training Officer training
Physical Requirements:
* Possess manual dexterity that allows for safe operation of vehicles & care of patients
* Possess the ability to bend, stoop, and crawl on uneven terrain
* Possess the ability to perform duties in low light and enclosed spaces
* Willingness to work shifts typically lasting between 12-24 hours
* Possess the ability to perform duties in all environmental conditions
* Ability to work with equipment as part of a team to safely move patients

Pay Range Disclosure:
* $21 to $27.45 per hour
