Redwire Space has an exciting opportunity for a Vice President, Engineering to join our team! This role will be instrumental in leading the integration of Redwire's new Space Missions division including recruiting and training engineering talent, development of engineering processes, allocation of engineering resources, and setting a standard of excellence for all Space Mission offerings and programs.
This business unit is geographically dispersed with employees in California, Colorado and Florida. The position is hybrid-the ideal candidate will be located within commuting distance of one of our offices in San Jose, CA, Littleton, CO, Longmont, CO, or Jacksonville, FL and will be expected in the office three days a week.
Responsibilities
* Lead the development and recruitment of a world class satellite-based space missions engineering team.
* Develop team to address technical, talent, training, or process gaps to create a highly engaged and resilient space mission focused development team.
* In partnership with cross functional business team, build and maintain technically and cost discriminated offerings for spacecraft including a product management structure and configuration control plan.
* Serves as consultant to the business unit in long-range planning concerning new or projected areas of technological research and advancements in the field of space mission spacecraft design
* Conducts Gate review process and review boards.
* Implements and conducts peer review best practices.
* Forecasts for engineering staffing demand and allocates talent based on business needs.
* Analyzes project requests and proposals and engineering data to determine feasibility, producibility, cost, and production time of space products.
* Participates in the IRAD process, ensuring focus on growth technologies and execution.
* Evaluates new technologies for application in improving execution of non-recurring engineering of space mission.
Requirements
* Bachelor's degree in engineering, Aerospace, or related field
* Minimum of 15 years related experience.
* Proven track record in developing strong relationships within the space industry with customers, vendors, suppliers, and other business relationships.
* Must have substantial experience managing space programs with an emphasis in satellite and mission design
* Must have extensive experience hiring, developing, and mentoring top engineering talent
* Experienced with Gate review process, managing review boards, and managing Launch readiness.
* Ability to implement and conduct peer review best practices.
* Experience conducting Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA), and implementing Lessons Learned
* Experience with PLM strategies (Configuration management)
* Proficiency in Design re-use and Qualification Database management
* US citizenship required and ability to obtain a security clearance
Desired Skills
* Master's Degree in Engineering, Aerospace or related field
* Recognized space industry specialist with technical insight in multiple engineering fields and disciplines
* Security clearance
* Lean Six Sigma belt certification
* MBA
