DIRECTOR OF TECHNOLOGY
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Director of Technology provides strategic vision, coordination, support, and leadership in the planning, integration, and implementation of innovative and emerging technologies to enhance curriculum, instruction, and administrative operations. This role ensures that technology initiatives align with district goals, promote student achievement, support teacher effectiveness, and optimize operational efficiency.
Essential Duties of the Director of Technology:

Leadership and Management:
* Manage the Technical Support Department, including assigning work, monitoring response to support requests, disseminating information, providing guidance, and evaluating staff performance.
* Develop and enforce policies and procedures for support operations, ensuring consistency and efficiency.
* Promote and support communication and collaboration between the Technology Department and district stakeholders, including the superintendent, principals, teachers, and other staff.
* Manage the office budget, including federal, state, and local funds, to ensure optimal allocation of resources.
Collaboration and Professional Development:
* Collaborate with all departments to develop and deliver professional development opportunities related to technology.
* Work with the Executive Director of Operations and Facilities, architects, and contractors to address technology needs for new construction projects.
* Assign staff to provide orientation and instructional assistance to teachers and administrators for integrating technology into the curriculum and administrative procedures.
Planning and Policy Development:
* Lead the implementation and goal-setting for the district's Technology Plan.
* Apply for and manage technology grants (state and federal) and funding opportunities, including VPSA and E-rate Technology funds.
* Plan and implement disaster recovery procedures to ensure data security and continuity of operations.
Technology Infrastructure and Systems:
* Troubleshoot network issues and optimize network performance and security.
* Establish standards for technology purchases and review requisitions for hardware and software to ensure compliance and cost-effectiveness.
* Arrange for the selection, installation, and maintenance of computer and information systems for administrative, instructional, and student users.
* Manage computer and copier lease agreements, as well as negotiations and maintenance of phone systems.
* Maintain an accurate inventory of technology assets, including software licenses and hardware.
Cybersecurity and Compliance:
* Develop and oversee the implementation of cybersecurity policies to protect student and staff data.
* Monitor and respond to security threats and breaches while ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations such as FERPA and CIPA.
Equity and Access:
* Promote equitable access to technology resources for all students and staff, addressing digital divide challenges.
* Oversee the implementation and support of 1:1 device initiatives.
Strategic Initiatives:
* Study, evaluate, and recommend emerging developments in technology to enhance educational outcomes and operational efficiency.
* Lead the development and execution of a long-term technology strategy aligned with district goals.
* Build and maintain strong relationships with vendors and community stakeholders to promote transparency and engagement.
Additional Responsibilities:
* Attend and/or conduct meetings related to technology updates, issues, and new initiatives.
* Perform related duties as required to support the mission and goals of the district.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Comprehensive expertise in the operation, functionality, and potential of computer and office technology systems, including hardware, peripheral equipment, and instructional software. Advanced knowledge of communication and network technologies, as well as their integration with K-12 instructional programs and administrative functions. Proficient in the development, implementation, and management of procedures to ensure secure and efficient data input, storage, and output across all systems. Skilled in designing and supporting scalable technology solutions aligned with educational goals. Exceptional ability to establish collaborative relationships with stakeholders, including educators, administrators, and IT teams, fostering effective communication and understanding of technical concepts. Demonstrated proficiency in preparing detailed reports and articulating complex technical information clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
* Required:
* Bachelor's Degree in Education, Information Technology, Educational Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
* Significant experience managing computer information systems in an educational setting, including training, systems integration, program development, and ensuring compliance with K-12 education standards.
* Demonstrated expertise in managing teams, fostering collaboration, and overseeing operating budgets effectively.
* Preferred:
* Master's Degree
* Educational Leadership Endorsement or equivalent certification, with a strong understanding of K-12 technology integration and curriculum alignment.
* Substitutions:
* A combination of equivalent training and experience may be considered in lieu of minimum qualifications.
