The primary responsibility of this role is to teach lecture and lab sections of Anatomy and Physiology I & II, as well as introductory general biology courses for majors and non-majors. In addition, this role includes engagement in curriculum review and development, participation in college governance, student advising, professional development, college initiatives and community engagement in ways that support equity and inclusion.
* Contribute to departmental efforts teaching anatomy and physiology and introductory biology courses (for majors and non-majors), with opportunities to teach additional courses based on department needs, faculty interest, and new program development.
* Participates in program and degree advising for students suited to students' career and transfer goals.
* Collaborate with Biology Department faculty to:
* Develop innovative, culturally relevant methods for teaching laboratory sciences that foster inclusivity and equity in the classroom.
* Implement and evaluate research-based pedagogical strategies that support diverse learning styles and backgrounds.
* Support student learning outside the classroom through activities like mentoring, staffing open laboratories, and holding accessible office hours.
* Regularly update syllabi and assist in creating department-approved curricula and laboratory handouts.
* Develop and assess student learning outcomes, ensuring they promote equitable learning experiences and support students from all backgrounds.
* Pursue grant opportunities that further excellence, equity, and diversity in science education.
* Actively participate in department, division, and professional staff meetings, along with other components of college governance and service.
* Engage in college programs and community service activities that promote HCC's mission: Educate, Inspire, and Connect.
REQUIRED:
* Master's degree in Biology or a closely related field.
* Demonstrated excellence in teaching, with a commitment to inclusive, interactive, and varied pedagogical strategies.
* Experience using technology in both classroom and laboratory settings to enhance learning.
* Excellent written and oral communication skills.
* A commitment to the mission of the community college, with a strong ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse backgrounds, including those of varying abilities, ages, ethnicities, races, sexual orientations, and gender identities.
* Dedication to promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion in the academic environment.
NOTE: A teaching demonstration will be a required part of the interview process.
PREFERRED:
* Community college teaching experience in a diverse or Hispanic Serving Institution;
* Ability to develop strong relationships between the college and employers of life science graduates;
* Doctorate in biology or a closely related field.

Full-time, tenure-track MCCC/MTA position
Salary: Minimum $54,820-$64,159. Actual salary will be commensurate with education and experience in accordance with MCCC/MTA Collective Bargaining Agreement. Full State benefits.
