Description
Organization Overview: The Goddard Riverside Community Center (Goddard Riverside) and the Stanley M. Isaacs Neighborhood Center (Isaacs Center) are well-established Manhattan community-based agencies that support services to approximately 30,000 New Yorkers. We are two of New York City's leading human services organizations meeting the needs of children, youth and families, homeless individuals, and older adults through-out Manhattan and New York City. We work every day for a fair and just society where all people have the opportunity to make choices that lead to better lives for themselves and their families. The Isaacs Center focuses primarily on the needs of children and low-income families, out-of-school and out-of-work youth, and aging New Yorkers. We operate at community centers located in the neighborhoods of East Harlem and Yorkville, and seek to deliver programs that are impactful, innovative, and intergenerational.
Program Description:Our vibrant Older Adult Center/Home Delivered Meals helps older members of the community live life to the fullest by providing case management, support services and activities to more than 3,000 center members. Birthdays, holiday parties and other social events strengthen the sense of community. Our hot lunches provide vital nutrition support at an affordable price. Our older adults are actively involved in the center, so services and activities reflect their needs and interests.
Purpose of Position: The volunteer associate will be an important face of the Isaacs Center to volunteers and other stakeholders, welcoming and leading groups with a high standard of hospitality and professionalism. He, she, or them should be comfortable leading teams and speaking to groups of various sizes and backgrounds. The Volunteer Associate will be responsible for collaborating daily with client-facing staff to assess needs and leveraging volunteer services to fill those needs
Schedule:Monday through Friday 7:30 am to 3:00 pm (contract ends June 30, 2024)
Salary Range: $32,722 - $40,903
Roles, Responsibilities, and Essential Duties
Primary Duties:
- Work with the Food and Nutrition team to ensure a high-quality volunteer experience, focusing on greeting volunteers, hospitality, troubleshooting issues, and delivering volunteer orientations.
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills and a genuine desire to engage deeply with supporters from a diversity of backgrounds.
- Supports the Food and Nutrition Department to assist with their functions and responsibilities
- Ensure volunteers are scheduled efficiently, and target volunteers to areas of greatest need based on schedule openings and aptitude.
- Conduct outreach by tabling at local hospitals, clinics, community meetings, etc.
- Develop and conduct volunteer orientation and training plans.
- Design and implement recruitment strategy for volunteers.
- Respond to volunteer inquiries
- Relay client concerns to appropriate senior staff
- Required to work on Thanksgiving and Christmas
- Performs other duties as required.
Qualifications
- High school diploma
- Knowledge of Peerplace and SQL a plus
- Strong attention to detail
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to take direction, lead and motivate others, and creatively problem-solve
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic environment independently.
- Strong organizational and planning skills as it applies to volunteerism.
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills and a genuine desire to engage deeply with supporters from a diversity of backgrounds.
- Required to work on Thanksgiving and Christmas
- Ensure volunteers are scheduled efficiently, and target volunteers to areas of greatest need based on schedule openings and aptitude.
