Description THIS POSTING MAY CLOSE AT ANY TIME ONCE A SUFFICIENT NUMBER OF APPLICATIONS HAVE BEEN RECEIVED. The Deputy Sheriff performs law enforcement work to protect lives, property, and rights of citizens of the County. Work involves performing law enforcement or jail duties in a specific area of assignment. This position may serve civil process papers, such as summons, writs of possession, foreclosures, executions, claim and delivery, restraining orders; answer complaint calls and patrol the County in an official vehicle to deter crime or apprehend violators or suspects; serve warrants and make warrant arrests; and/or performing various procedures associated with transporting prisoners for the Sheriff's Department. Specific duties and responsibilities may vary according to areas of assignment. Employee is subject to the usual hazards of law enforcement work. Examples of Duties Enforces all the laws of the state and applicable federal laws. Provides law enforcement services to residents and responds to service requests. Prepares documentation and reports in a timely manner. Regular and punctual attendance is required. Patrol function is primarily focused on criminal activity involving conveyances operating in, or affecting Denton County. Participates in joint operations with State, local, and federal agencies. May be tasked with participating as a task force officer on federal taskforces. Writes search and arrest warrants in the furtherance of their assignment. Prepares asset forfeiture paperwork and files this paperwork with the appropriate state or federal entity. Completes offense and incident reports as necessary; may be required to testify in court. Apprehends criminals in both hostile and non-hostile situations. Provides training for other officers and may be called upon to present to private, civic, student, or government groups. Investigates and provides follow-up when appropriate related to criminal activity. Supports other divisions within DCSO as required. Performs other related duties as required Minimum Qualifications High School graduation or GED. CERTIFICATION AS A PEACE OFFICER IN THE STATE OF TEXAS REQUIRED. Possession of a valid driver's license. Must be able to obtain a State of Texas driver's license within 90 days. Must be a U.S. citizen.
