The Office of Marketing and Communications at South Dakota Mines is seeking a qualified Web Designer to drive the redesign and ongoing maintenance of the university website by working with administrative, technical and departmental constituents to ensure content is up-to-date and functionality meets the needs of target markets. Candidates with experience in web design, web project management, management and development of web content within a content management system, information architecture and search engine optimization are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate must have an understanding of branding and marketing principles, and organizational experience, preferably in higher education.
Applicants should possess knowledge and experience in managing websites, web content publishers, working with search engine optimization, and coordinating with third-party sites (including familiarity with API's). Knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, ADA accessibility guidelines related to web design, and responsive web design is necessary. In addition to technical skills, it is preferred that candidates have a background in marketing, advertising, media management, graphic arts, and familiarity with popular social media platforms.
The Office of Marketing and Communications provides a variety of services to the campus community, including: public relations, media relations, campus communications, web and video services, government relations, photography and graphic design, and educational outreach. Efforts and activities are designed to assist in the recruitment of students, faculty, and staff; support fundraising activities; provide recognition for faculty, staff, and students; and identify opportunities for the university to work more closely with the community and state.
A bachelor's degree in web design, web development, computer science, information technology, marketing, graphic design, publishing, journalism or closely related field is required.
