DESCRIPTION
The UC San Diego School of Global Policy and Strategy (GPS) is an interdisciplinary, discovery-driven graduate school focusing on international affairs and public policy. We offer an original and rigorous approach to policy, as our goal is to create global policy solutions that matter. At GPS, students learn from world-class professors while surrounded by a diverse body of students from all over the world. And our San Diego location gives us the freedom to seek progress untethered from tradition and lean into the power of the Pacific Coast as a hub of innovation, diversity and proactive problem-solving.
GPS instructs a diverse student body of domestic and international students in the MPP, MCEPA, MIA, and MAS-IA degree programs, a joint Ph.D. with the Department of Political Science and executive education programs. GPS also administers the International Studies Program, offering a rigorous curriculum for students interested in international affairs with nine B.A. degree options, three combined BA/MIA and BA/MPP programs, and a minor program. GPS is also the parent organization to major research centers: 21st Century China Center, 21st Century India Center, Big Pixel Initiative, Center for Commerce and Diplomacy, Cowhey Center on Global Transformation, Center for U.S.-Mexican Studies, Fudan-UC Center on Contemporary China, Japan Forum for Innovation and Technology, Korea-Pacific Program, Policy Design and Evaluation Lab, SDG Policy Initiative, Wavemaker Lab, and the campus-wide Deep Decarbonization Initiative and the UC Institute on Global Conflict and Cooperation.
Under supervision, incumbent's key responsibilities include collecting detailed data and information from various Chinese and English-language sources as necessary, building upon existing data and case studies conducted by UCSD students, acquiring descriptive statistics on labor disputes in energy sector by utilizing specialized legal datasets, engaging in data analysis, interpreting and conducting in-depth investigations on preliminary analysis results, examining the evolution of labor policies under stringent climate measures, and collaborating with research partners as required.
Incumbent will also contribute to broader Program activities and development, including regular attendance at research seminars, training and supervision of undergraduate researchers, and documentation of Program-wide shared resources. Perform other duties as assigned.
* Overtime may be required. Occasional evenings and weekends may be required.
QUALIFICATIONS
* Working skills in statistical analysis, systems programming, database design and data security measures.
* Working knowledge of research function. Ability to work efficiently and collaboratively as part of an academic research team, contributing to a shared research agenda and providing support to other team members as needed.
* Working skills in analysis and consultation.
* Theoretical understanding and practical expertise in labor policies, industrial relations, labor and employment law, or a related field.
* Ability to conduct independent literature research, utilizing university and other academic research resources to support independent research activities.
* Demonstrated ability to independently plan, organize, and complete specific research projects or components, with a focus on data-driven analysis and timely delivery of results.
* Exhibit the capacity to work independently and collaboratively, showcasing excellent organizational skills to effectively prioritize assignments, maintain workflow, and meet critical deadlines and milestones.
* Skills to communicate complex information in a clear and concise manner both verbally and in writing. Possess excellent oral and written communication skills, navigating cross-cultural communication challenges and collaborating effectively with a diverse group of faculty, students, and stakeholders.
* Ability to prepare, interpret, and present research findings for journal publications.
PREFERRED:
* Possess extensive knowledge and practical experience in Social Sciences, International Relations, Law, or a related field; or demonstrate an equivalent combination of education and experience.
* Working knowledge with qualitative and quantitative research methodologies, including data collection and statistical analysis skills.
* Present a track record of independent research, substantiated through academic publications or working papers focusing on relevant research topics.
* Knowledge of Chinese language.

Pay Transparency Act
Annual Full Pay Range: $69,500 - $123,500 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $33.29 - $59.15
Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
