The College of Science currently houses ten academic departments as well as the School of Engineering and serves approximately 4,000 undergraduate and 660 graduate students. The college currently employees approximately 255 faculty (i.e., tenured/tenure-track professors and lecturers, and 50 staff members) with an operational budget of approximately $19M. Working with department chairs, the Dean provides an overall vision for the college; hires and supports faculty; builds and maintains quality academic programs; leads facilities planning for the college; manages the enrollment; engages in alumni relationships and leads the philanthropic work in the college; and has overall fiscal responsibility for the college budget. Responsibilities Strategic Planning and Academic Leadership: * Lead the Chair Counsel and Associate Dean to implement the college's mission. * Oversee academic program planning and review in the college. * Provide university-wide leadership in the Academic Affairs Leadership Team. * Serve in leadership roles on university-wide committees and initiatives. * Work with mid-level managers from across campus to collaboratively solve problems. * Serve on the Student Success and Equity advisory board. * Develop and implement college-wide initiatives to support student equity and success. * Lead college Chairs Council. Academic Programs, Student Success and Resource Management: * Develop, manage and implement an annual budget for the college. * Make personnel and operational budget allocations to departments. * Assign and monitor FTES and SFR targets for departments. * Supervise Budget Analyst in the tracking and projecting of all expenses in the college. * Recruitment and Retention Committee. * Develop and lead activities to build community and engage faculty. * Oversee the development and delivery of high-quality academic programs that meet standards and address the needs of the needs of students. * Lead College in delivering effective, efficient annual course schedules. * Develop, implement and support student success initiatives that support the retention and career readiness of students. * Manage academic advising in the college. * Support the recruitment, support and success of graduate students. External Relations and Engagement: * Build and maintain strong relationships with industry and community partners. * Lead fundraising efforts in the college with support from the Development Officers. * Plan and participate in events that engage college alumni. * Engage in stewardship activities with current donors. * Represent the college and university by serving on external boards and committees. * Work closely with Advancement on fundraising goals and opportunities. * Work closely with the Office of Research & Sponsored Programs to support faculty research and scholarship. Faculty Recruitment and Retention: * Recruit and review all probationary faculty annually. * Review faculty for tenure, promotion, and post-tenure review. * Review lecturer faculty for range elevation. * Lead recruitment efforts for all tenure-track faculty positions in the college. * Recommend department chairs for appointment and review department chairs annually. Facilities Management and Other Duties as Assigned: * Allocate and monitor the use of all space in the college. * Lead planning and design of renovations and new construction. * Identify and prioritize maintenance issues in the college. * Support the acquisition, installation, and maintenance of major equipment in the college. Required Qualifications * Terminal degree in one of the disciplines housed in the college and service requisite for appointment as a tenure, full professor in one of the academic departments in the college. * Outstanding record of achievement in the Sciences with experience in teaching and funded research. * Substantial experience providing leadership and vision in an academic or research environment. * Demonstrated commitment to shared governance and experience working in a collective bargaining unit. * Experience in administering or working with programs that serve a diverse population. * Substantial experience leading in an academic environment that encourages innovation, equity, scholarship, and research. * A strong record of building and proactively supporting faculty teaching, research, and development. * Experience in administering, working, and promoting programs that serve a diverse student population. * Experience in building and maintaining strong and collegial relationships with faculty, students, staff, and administration. * Ability to provide strong leadership through collaborative and shared decision making; ability to effectively manage resources in a competitive environment. * Demonstrated ability to master and effectively implement the policies of a large complex public organization. * Visionary leadership style, with a track record of fostering innovation and collaboration, within and/or across colleges. * Experience working with industry and community leaders to build effective partnerships. * Ability to collaborate with development directors in fundraising. * A record of building and proactively supporting faculty research and development. * Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. * Substantial emotional intelligence.
