POSITION SUMMARY:
The USF Department of Surgery is seeking qualified trauma surgeons to join the Trauma Network Division at one of eleven Florida state-designated trauma centers (six centers are ACS verified as well). The scope of practice includes trauma surgery, surgical critical care, and emergency general surgery. Five facilities have general surgery residency programs; of these, two have surgical critical care fellowships. Each position is a full-time, 12-month, salaried, principal faculty appointment (non-tenured) at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or full Professor, as appropriate to education and experience. USF is particularly interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community in clinical care, teaching, service, and research. The successful candidate must be BC/BE, be eligible for medical licensure in the State of Florida, and eligible to work in the United States. RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Responsible (with authority) for all aspects of the Trauma Program at the facility, to include trauma call panel privileges, treatment protocols and guidelines, service policies, education community outreach, hospital executive interface, and performance improvement; promotes multidisciplinary approach to care of injured, critically ill, and emergency surgical patients; leads trauma education at the facility.
* Successfully complete program requirements of the ACGME institutional and surgery/surgical critical care residency review committee standards. Direct supervision of residents.
* Responsible to a Chair or other appropriate higher-level administrator of a State University. Responsible for teaching, research, service, and related administrative activities. Responsible for academic advising. May represent the university, college/school, or department/unit on university and/or statewide committees.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM:
* Medical degree from an accredited institution or the highest degree appropriate in the field of specialization with a demonstrated record of achievement in teaching, academic research, and service.
* Must meet university criteria for appointment to the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or full Professor.
* For Associate/full Professor - Normally will have produced creative work, professional writing or research in refereed and other professional journals, and be a recognized authority in the field of specialization.
* Certified (or eligible for certification according to current requirements) by the American Board of Surgery or American Osteopathic Board of Surgery in Surgery, with added qualifications in Surgical Critical Care.
PREFERRED:
* Current as an Advanced Trauma Life Support Instructor.
* Demonstrated proficiency in the field of trauma surgery, surgical critical care, and emergency general surgery.
* Demonstrated competency in administration, finance, and community relations.
* Demonstrated commitment to teaching health care professional students, residents, and practicing clinicians.
