Description

The Department of Speech Communication and Theatre in the College of Liberal Arts is seeking applications for its position as Assistant Professor/Technical Director of Theatre.

Examples of Duties

• Supervise and assist as needed with set and stage construction and management.
• Operate, maintain and safeguard the technical assets of the theatre; including supervise the use of lighting, sound, equipment, and the use and maintenance of stage facilities.
• Monitor Tech Week rehearsals in order to supervise and assist in the technical aspects of the mounting of the show.
• Attend production strike at the close of the run of the show.
• Supervise the building of set and scenery pieces, mount the scenery onstage, oversee the work of the scenic crews during rehearsals and performances, and maintain the shop’s equipment and supplies.
• Teach departmental classes, which include, but not limited to Technical Theatre, Stage Lighting, and Scenic Design.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Typical Qualifications

• An M.F.A. in Technical Direction or Design is preferred. Candidates with commensurate experience will also be given serious consideration.
• Must be capable of working at heights and perform occasional heavy lifting.
• Must have knowledge of tools and equipment needed.
• Preferred consideration will be given to applicants with experience with the following:

- Vectorworks or AutoCAD,
- MIG and/or TIG welding,
- wood and metal construction techniques,
- theatrical engineering, sound, props construction, OSHA safety protocols, and theatrical rigging.
