WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
We're looking for a Senior Concept Design Engineer to be part of our Apparel R&D Innovation Concept Studio. The mission and vision of the studio is to provide creative insights, research and technical expertise to inspire discovery and experimentation. We utilize unconventional approaches and state of the art technology to create conceptual, digital and physical solutions
This role will provide creative insights and technical expertise to inspire discovery and experimentation. You will meet complex challenges with imaginative state of art approaches and solutions and must possess deep knowledge and expertise in apparel construction, tailoring, fit and broad working knowledge of textile. You will create proof of concept prototypes in both digital and physical form. You will act as a creative thought partner and innovation problem solver.
The candidate needs to possess the following traits and skills:
* Understanding of the end-to-end Apparel product creation process
* Possess knowledge of materials and material properties used in athletic performance product
* Understanding of manufacturing; knowledge of equipment and machinery and other hand tools used in garment construction
* Anticipate problems, facilitate solutions and address project issues in a timely manner
* Innovation-mindset; creative, curious, observant, risk-taker, resilient, connected
* Strong communication, influencing and presentation skills
* Well-developed business and process sense
* Flexible, self-starter, motivated to continually learn and grow
WHAT YOU WILL WORK ON
If this is you, you'll be part of an R&D studio that is pushing the boundaries of apparel capabilities. Your day to day will consist of the following activities:
* Create and deliver iterative trials in physical models for proof of concept
* Innovative and complex problem - solving including ideation and inspiration through partnership
* Anticipate problems, facilitate solutions and address project issues in a timely manner
* Execute tasks with flexibility and the appropriate sense of urgency. Assess/resolve readiness and collaborate with CCC managers to prioritize and balance workload appropriately.
* Research and Exploration: method of make machine and technology
* Interpreting a flat 2D design and creating a vision in 3D
* Design consultant and feasibility reviews
* Provide technical resource and mentorship to others; identify and lead educational opportunities
* Operate specialty machinery to fabricate, manufacture and finish concepts which includes Machine set up and basic maintenance
* Research new equipment and continually investigate capabilities of current equipment, run trials and gather results to share your findings and make recommendation
WHO YOU WILL WORK WITH
As part of the NXT Apparel team, you will report to the Design Engineering Manager and collaborate with multiple stakeholders; including cross functional team members: Material Innovators, Product Developers, Apparel Designers, innovation project teams and category clients: support organization in accomplishing seasonal product concepts and initiatives, participate in product reviews with project team
WHAT YOU BRING
* Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of relevant education, experience, and training
* 2 years apparel industry product creation experience
* Knowledge of apparel construction and materials
* Understanding of apparel design and development
* Basic pattern knowledge
* Effective verbal and written communication
* Experience with software such as Optitex, 3D, Outlook, Adobe Illustrator
* Strong organization skills, time management and attention to detail
* Ability to work on variety of industrial sewing equipment
