JOB SUMMARY
The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of the University Hospitals will be a member of the executive leadership team and will work closely with the COO, the CNO and the CEO of the University Hospitals as well as University financial leadership. They will assist in positioning the University Hospitals to succeed in the continuously evolving healthcare environment. The CFO has the overall responsibility for overseeing the financial operations of the University Hospitals including guiding financial strategy, budgeting, and forecasting, and ensuring integrity of the financial systems, internal controls and financial reporting. The capacity to evaluate operational challenges and work with various constituents to determine the right balance between risk and opportunity will be critical. The CFO will work collaboratively with hospital leadership to manage expenses and productivity, while simultaneously supporting growth. The CFO must demonstrate leadership to ensure the continued financial success of the hospitals in a complex and highly regulated environment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
JOB DUTIES
* Responsibility and oversight for University Hospital's general ledger, financial reporting and controls, financial planning, decision support, cost management, and budgeting and hospital revenue cycle management.
* Ensure integrity of financial reporting through system of management reporting to enable managers to make effective business decision. Develop a visible, assessable, consistent financial, accounting, reporting and control culture. Create an environment that promotes team orientation, with a motivated, enthusiastic, service-oriented approach that supports the culture of the University Hospitals.
* Development of annual Operating and Capital budgets for the hospital in partnership with Health System and University financial leaders as the Hospital budget is a major component of the overall institutional budget.
* Provide financial decision making information including operational and financial benchmarking, including variance, cost, and financial analysis.
* Work with Health System revenue cycle team to maximize revenue enhancement and collection and ensure integrity of collected data to enhance management information and analysis. Ensure compliance with all billing regulations.
* Provide financial guidance with respect to reducing operating costs; develop and implement a financial strategic plan that enhances the Hospital‿s operations plan and cash position.
* Ensure that the members of the hospital management team are provided the analytical framework and timely information to evaluate their operational performance.
* In collaboration with Health System and Southwest Health Resource financial leaders, provides information to and engages in payor negotiations.
* Evaluate the skills, knowledge and abilities of the staff in finance; develop performance plans, development goals and recruiting plans which will enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of the financial professionals.
* Proactively provide guidance with respect to opportunities and risks in new clinical programs and strategic partnerships.
* Maintain high professional standards for all financial planning and financial operations.
* Build collegial and collaborative work partnerships and effective channels of communication with direct reports, operations, medical staff and senior management teams of the Hospital, Health System and University.
* Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
Required
* Education
Master's Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
* Experience
Ten (10) years of progressively responsible financial experience within a distinguished academic medical center, major teaching hospital, or multi-hospital system.
Preferred
* Licenses and Certifications
(CPA) CERT PUBLIC ACCOUNTANT
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
* Work requires excellent presentation skills and experience in working with a senior executive team in business planning and financial strategy development.
* Work requires a track record of strong financial, analytic and problem solving capabilities. The ability to see the broader implications of key decisions with an appreciation for operations.
* Work requires experience developing and executing on a disciplined growth strategy.
* Work requires outstanding business development skills.
* Work requires a strong business orientation with the ability to "go beyond the numbers" in helping the senior executive team identify and develop opportunities for increasing revenue, reducing expense and strengthening the organization's financial performance.
* Work requires current training on and experience with today's management philosophies such as the use of information technology and process improvement tools. Experience with EPIC and PS would be a plus.
* Work requires a proven leader of people who is able to recruit, develop and mentor a top-notch financial team capable of supporting future growth. Someone known to have developed a high performance team.
