Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include: * Serving as a fire-safety consultant to project managers and other management officials regarding fire protection features and requirements in construction and alteration projects. * Providing advice and guidance to city and county fire marshals and fire departments with jurisdiction over geographic areas in which agency facilities are located, resolving conventional or precedence problems that may arise. * Scheduling and conducting evacuation drills. * Executing the TRACEN's Fire Prevention program by overseeing and guiding Fire Wardens / Building Managers. * Scheduling and conducts fire protection analyses and surveys. * Conducting technical reviews of plans, specifications, and fire protection analyses for new construction and alteration projects. This position has been designated as a key position. If selected for this position, the incumbent will be screened for Ready Reserve status and appropriate action will be taken to remove the incumbent from the Ready Reserves, if a member. Qualifications To qualify at the GS-08 grade level, applicants must have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 grade level in the federal sector. Examples of specialized experience include: developing, directing and administering a thorough and comprehensive fire fighting and fire prevention program; maintaining a variety of training and qualifications controlling or extinguishing fires as a member of an organized military, industrial, volunteer, or governmental fire department or brigade; rescue operations; detection, reduction, or elimination of potential fire hazards; operation of fire communications equipment; developing, managing, controlling hazardous materials incidents response programs; developing, implementing, or providing training in fire protection and prevention, or supervising, controlling and directing a fire station. This position is designated as a key position. The position is clearly in the firefighter mission and requires a background in firefighting. Requires a valid State Class B operator license. There is a maximum age restriction for this position (37). This position requires you to possess and maintain all of the following Department of Defense (DoD), International Fire Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) or National Board on Fire Service Professional Qualifications (ProBoard) equivalent certifications: (Please note: All certifications must be uploaded at time of application.) Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Employee is required to be certified at the DoD Firefighter Certification Level as minimum: Fire Firefighter I & II Fire Instructor I Fire Inspector I Driver Operator Pumper Hazardous Materials operations Hazardous Material Awareness National Registry (NREMT) or State Emerrgency Medical Technician These certifications must have been awarded by DoD, IFSAC or ProBoard to meet the requirement. NOTE: Education cannot be substituted for experience at this grade level. National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
