Job Title: Academic and Career Counselor Job Code: SST051 Pay Grade: E Salary: $42,500 The Academic and Career Counselor (ACC) is a position within the Walking the Next Mile program to assist participants with academic and career goals; provide counseling on overcoming barriers and provide resources to reach academic and employment goals. Work for this position involves assessing participants' abilities and needs via assessments and interviews in order to guide their placement in appropriate educational, training, and work settings. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: * Interviews participants to determine their educational objectives and connect them to appropriate academic and vocational training courses. * Administers, scores, and interprets diagnostic assessments to determine educational opportunities and participant placement in suitable educational programs for academic or vocational development. * Assists and counsel participants in the selection of courses or educational programs, tutorial programs, post educational goals, or in pursuing training opportunities. * Provides counseling and guidance to participants to guide their selection of and enrollment in specialized vocational training and trade certification programs based on their individual academic achievement, interests, experience, aptitude, and labor market needs in the area to which they will return upon release from confinement. * Establishes and maintains centralized educational files for each participant enrolled in the program. * Counsels participants on behavior, attitude, and career development problems relative to their participation in academic or vocational training programs. * Assists instructors in handling discipline and participant progress through intervention and follow-up with participants. * Maintains records and prepares reports on individual participant progress and performance for program and grant review purposes. * Assists participants with job interview techniques, writing resumes, and job search techniques prior to release. * Performs related work as required. Preferred Qualifications: * Bachelor's Degree and 3 years of experience in academic, career, and/or guidance counseling * Experience in delivering educational and career readiness assessments and having experience with adult learners is highly preferred. * Knowledge of the administration, scoring, and interpretation of academic and vocational diagnostic, aptitude, and achievement tests. * Experience working with justice-involved individuals either in an incarceration environment or those on supervision in the community. * Experience with Microsoft Office Suite. Skills/Abilities: * Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. * Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills * Ability to work across a diverse population Why You Should Apply?
