Position Summary: We are seeking a Research Scientist position that will be shared among projects at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) in the Department of Family and Community Medicine, Department of Nutrition Sciences, and the Student Health and Wellness Center. The successful applicant will be housed in the Department of Family and Community Medicine and will report to Dr. Drew Sayer. Duties will include providing nutrition counseling across research, clinical, and community settings, assisting with research coordination, and contributing to research products (e.g., manuscripts, presentations, future grant applications, etc.) related to Dr. Sayer's ongoing NIH-sponsored trial and other research projects in the Department of Family and Community Medicine. A Research Scientist conducts advanced studies in a specific field, applying specialized knowledge to drive research projects. This role involves data analysis, interpretation of results, and contribution to scientific literature. The position requires collaboration with peers and adherence to established protocols, with moderate autonomy and responsibility for project deliverables. Depending on the research focus, this position may involve research participant contact, research animal contact, and/or specimens. Key Duties and Responsibilities * To provide evidence-based nutrition counseling and assessment services for research and clinical/community projects. * To plan, coordinate, and conduct research in the Department of Family and Community Medicine. * Provide nutrition counseling and assessment services for Dr. Sayer's ongoing NIH-sponsored clinical trial. * Documentation of treatment fidelity and protocol adherence in Dr. Sayer's trial. * Assist with planning, scheduling, and conducting research outcome assessments for Dr. Sayer's trial. * Contribute to the analysis and dissemination of research data from Dr. Sayer's trial (e.g., abstracts for national/international conferences, manuscripts, presentations, etc.). * Contribute to the preparation and submission of future grant applications related to developing, optimizing, and evaluating lifestyle-based preventive services in primary care settings. * Provide nutrition counseling and assessment services as part of a community program sponsored by Viva Health in Collaboration with the UAB Nutrition Sciences. * Work with UAB Nutrition Sciences staff to collect outcome data and work with nutrition experts in the department to develop and sustain nutrition services. * Conduct needs assessments of potential patients as well as collect/analyze data from feedback surveys related to provided nutrition services. * Provide nutrition counseling to UAB students at the Student Health and Wellness Center Salary Range: $70,425 - $114,440 Doctorate degree in a related field and one (1) year of related experience OR Masters degree in a related field and three (3) years of related experience OR Bachelors degree in a related field and five (5) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
