This is a exempt position, which is professional supervisory work in the recreation field responsible for overseeing public programs and other recreational activities.
An employee in this classification coordinates and executes recreational and athletic programs within Plantation for participants ranging from pre-school through senior citizen groups. The employee works within departmental policies and procedures, however, exercises independent judgment in the application of specialized knowledge of community recreation programming. Provides direction for the maintenance, office staff, facility attendants and instructors assigned to the facility.
Work is performed under the general supervision of the Superintendent of Facilities who reviews work through observation and personal conferences for attainment of desired program results.
Employees are hired as AT WILL employees that serve at the pleasure of the City and may be terminated at any time with or without cause.Plans, coordinates and instructs all activities at facility for activities sponsored by the City.
Directs recreation and maintenance staff assigned to the facility.
Responsible for the collection of fees and charges for classes and special events; and close out and balance of all monies. Executes purchase orders authorized by the department director.
Responsible for scheduling the use and rental of facility.
Plans and facilitates camp programs during the summer and City-wide special events.
Responsible for the inventory, checkout, upkeep and repair of facility equipment.
Maintains records and submits reports on the status of work projects.
Performs other related duties as required and as directed.
Responsible for file maintenance of Rec Trac System for specific facility.
Ensures compliance with the City code and procurement policies and procedures by reviewing and monitoring procurements conducted by any designee, department or official.
Performs any assigned duty beforeKnowledge of principles, practices, procedures and techniques of recreational activities.
Knowledge of multi-disciplined recreation activities, including individual activities.
Considerable knowledge of effective supervisory methods and techniques.
Ability to plan, coordinate and implement special classes, recreation activities and special events.
Ability to effectively supervise and direct the activities of a moderate sized group of recreation and custodial personnel in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale.
Ability to learn Rec Trac computer software and become proficient in its usage.
Ability to maintain relatively complex records and to prepare accurate reports from such records.
Ability to work a flexible work schedule to accommodate the facility's needs.
Ability to perform monetary transactions; close out and balance cash register.
Ability to assess the needs of the facility and order appropriate supplies and equipment.
Ability to set up and operate all audio video and departmental equipment.
Ability to maintain facility for safety hazards and knowledge of proper use of safety procedures.
Ability to meet and deal courteously with the general public and establish and maintain an effective working relationship with civic groups, City officials and other municipal employees.
DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
Bachelor's degree with major course work in Recreation/Physical Education; or other closely related field. Experience in conducting organized recreational programs in a Community Center environment.
LiveScan Fingerprint Process
Incumbents in this job class are required to undergo a Level 2 Background Screening as required by the State of Florida. The screening includes a photograph, fingerprint-based searches of criminal records nationally, and is performed using the electronic LiveScan process.
This is a designated "Recovery" classification in the City's Emergency Operations Plan and will require the employee occupying this position to work for declared emergencies. Attendance at National Incident Management System (NIMS) training at the appropriate level is mandatory.
