Responsibilities The Associate Chief Nursing Officer (ACNO) plays a pivotal role as a transformational leader, supporting the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) in achieving Mercy Medical Center's Nursing Strategic Plan which supports Mercy's mission, vision, and values. The position: * is instrumental in creating a dynamic environment and ensuring safe, timely, efficient, effective, equitable, patient and family-centered care. Moreover, the position partners with the CNO to establish and uphold cultures of nursing excellence throughout the division. * continually finds innovative ways to increase patient satisfaction scores and other quality metrics and collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to develop and implement action plans to address issues and improve outcomes. * maintains a robust working knowledge of Magnet and the initiatives needed to be successful in redesignation. * supports the CNO in cultivating evidence-based decision-making in a strong shared governance structure. * partners with CNO in leadership initiatives that support professional practice and continual process improvement. * has strong relationships with key internal and external stakeholders in the organization, is detail-oriented, and assesses environmental needs to support the delivery of safe, effective patient and family care. * works to ensure the effective and efficient use of all resources and is accountable for monitoring the budget and controlling variances, including direct labor, materials, and supplies, and ensuring financial targets are met or exceeded. * uses analytics to standardize services, processes, and practices where appropriate to improve efficiency and maximize continuity of patient care. * is responsible for coordinating and ensuring regulatory compliance with all State/Federal and JCAHO standards as evidenced by successful surveys. * Maintains a current state of readiness for internal and external surveys. * is a role model to the highest standard and leads using coaching and mentoring for direct reports while analyzing and evaluating ongoing initiatives and identifying areas for improvement. * plays an active role in recruiting, interviewing, hiring, orienting, retaining high-level talent and creating an environment that fosters staff and leader satisfaction. * actively engages in processes that develop and reward high performers while addressing performance improvement needs through coaching, accountability plans, and disciplinary action. * strongly advocates for implementing evidence-based practice and a culture of clinical inquiry while supporting, promoting, and integrating research activities within the Division. * fosters a culture of innovation as a role model contributing to nursing nationally. * reviews, approves, communicates, and implements clinical protocols, policies, and procedures to facilitate efficient and effective practices. * coordinates the development of performance standards, objectives, evaluations, and opportunities for staff growth and development. Requirements * MSN required; Doctorate preferred * Minimum 7 years experience of comprehensive expertise in operational execution * Leadership experience in a complex health organization * The main areas of responsibility are medical and surgical units, intensive care unit, intermediate care unit, emergency services, maternal-child health, and the staffing office.
