The University of Texas Permian Basin's Library welcomes applications for the position of Library Specialist III Salary Range $40,144.00 depending on qualifications Essential Functions Reporting directly to the Access Services Librarian, this is an exciting opportunity to join a highly collaborative and supportive team at The University of Texas Permian Basin, a part of the prestigious 14 institution University of Texas System. The Library Specialist represents the first point of contact with students, faculty, staff, and the community for the library and provides a variety of services at the front desk. While working closely with the Access Services Librarian, the individual assists library users in utilizing library materials, services, and technologies; along with answering basic information questions, supporting the acquisition processing and circulation of library materials, and contributes to the general maintenance of the library. The ideal candidate will have strong communication, interpersonal, problem solving, and computer skills. 1. Performs all functions at the library service desk including opening and closing of the building, explaining and enforcing library policies and procedures, and tracking of departmental library statistics. 2. Assists library users with using library resources and provides general reference services through telephone, email, chat and in person. 3. Checks out/in library resources including books, laptops, hotspots, and kits. 4. Operates and maintains all library software and equipment. 5. Assists with responding and processing of interlibrary loan and course reserve requests. 6. Assists with stack maintenance, shelving, shelf-reading, and library collection weeding process. 7. Required Qualifications 1. Bachelor's degree Preferred Qualifications 1. One (1) year of library experience and/or customer service experience. Schedule Generally, the normal work hours for the university are Monday through Thursday, 7:30 - 5:30 pm; Friday, 8:00 am - 12:00 pm with a one-hour lunch. The individual holding this position may need to be available early morning, evening, and on weekends to meet the needs of the department. Hours worked may differ with some departments. Standard Working Conditions 1. Able to lift various materials up to 25 pounds on an occasional basis. 2. Able to bend, crouch, and reach continuously. 3. Physically able remain seated, frequently to continuously. 4. Able to remain standing up to 15% of the time. 5. Possesses dexterity abilities required to perform job duties including extensive keyboard work, operating office equipment, performing filing, and other job-related responsibilities that include extensive wrist and hand movement. 6.
